I've got some really annoying sound coming from the front when i accelerate for about 5~10 minutes. it sounds like if there is a nut or something loose. First i thought it was only happening while the "cold" light is still on, but now i can hear it even after that. But this sound mysteriously dissapears when after driving the car at high revs, and then when i slow down, it stops. (still takes 5~10 min though).
It doesnt comes back again until i turn off the car to cool down and then the same shit starts again.
I am guessing some oil issues, i have checked the oil, its all good. How to check the tranny oil. I am on an Auto trans.
Also, i have noticed, whenever i have a cold start in the morning, although i cannot see any smoke, but i smell something is not good.
I had this car imported from jap, and there r no authorised mechanics for her. Hit and trial applies mostly.. Any help where i should start, and what to check out first?
HELP

KM = around 40,000 only. and in the last whole year, i only drove 9000 km. I never took her above 120 kmph.
but dont know what's happening here, even the engine sounds a bit different.

have you done any mods to the car , also the auto trans has a
dip stick to check oil level, it will be either white or yellow in color.

no mods whatsoever, i am still looking for a dipstick, its one big yellow one on the left side of the engine, and i am guessing its not for the trans oil. i am also guessing something about the levels of oil in the trans. is there anywhere where i should take a good look at?

Photo of engine would help , auto trans dip stick should be on the back of the gear box or the front , is the sound present when the car is in park and you apply the throttle , or is the sound there only when driveing.

is it a kind of clicking / knocking sound ?
if so your valves might need to be adjusted.

5-10 minutes after startup is the vehicle warm up period....you really shouldn't be driving the 'crap' out of the car until the "cool" liht is off....
^^^if that is what you're talking about....

i am talking 5~10 min, after the cool off time. Also the sound only comes while i am driving the car, not while i am playing with the revs in idle mode.
Ever heard the engine belts, or the A/C belts of any old car screaaaming. Its that kind of sound.
I am still thinking that the sound is coming from the gear box, but how to check the oil levels?
anything else to get checked?
Do you do your maintenance regularly? Things like engine air filter. Also do you use good gas? Because 40000km usually won't have much problem yet.
If you are talking about revving up high when the engine is still cold, it is a normal behaviour for auto tranny. If you do have to drive when the engine is still cold, drive it gently otherwise it might make some high revving sound.

I somewhat dobt the KM's are true , as it is very easy to adjust the
odo via obd11 useing a laptop. Which is a very common practice in japan for 2nd hand cars.

You can't find the auto trans dipstick? It's in the middle of the engine bay up front closest to you when your standing in front of the car, slightly to the rightside. It's right next to the air intake, almost kind of hidden but it's still in plain sight. Has a little metal holder on it to keep it in place. Just pull it on out and there is marks on it to show what level it's at.

well, first off : mysteriously today the sound was a lot less. I did not hear the sound as often as i do every day. But, i will still like to check the transmission oil.

mine sounds like there's a bolt rolling around on the bare floor, but i drive manual though, i don't know if that's your sound.
or is it the sound that you hear once stopped (engine off) and you hear like there's a nail hitting your muffler sound?
edit: i didn't read.. could it be your fan blower?? try turning off the fan an drive around and see............

Well, found anotherone with strange sounds coming from the engine compartment. He says his sounds r coming from the A/C pulley. Can it be? Can I be suffering from the same problem? Maybe some or any one of the pulleys is squeeking a bit.
It's somewhat sounds like a "SQUEEK", the sound u may hear if your bumper is loose or u forgot to completely close the hood of Ye car.

Well I'm preety sure my car is around 40000 mark. The condition on the car, both interior and exterior says it all. Then there's that "under the hood" inspection that can give a rough idea about the cars millage. No rusts, the paint still in top condition, engine bay looks & feels untouched. Somethings like that. I'm not a genius or anything, but I can say even if the odo is tempered, it doesn't seem to be over the 40000km mark.

LOL
hey.. just a hint, it might not be the case, but would you check the ODBII connector ? mine vibrates like @#$@#%^, and the 2nd place i would check is the cluster shroud...
if it's a high pitched squeak, like a loose ring on a metal tube sound, check the rear bench.
