Rear point jack issue

Hey guys and gals. So I have a couple of 2.5 ton Craftsman floor jacks that I use when working on my car. When I use the front central jack position I can raise the front end high enough to get my jack stands in position under the side lips on both sides of my liftback. This is not the case with the rear. The central rear point is so high off the ground that my jack becomes fully extended before I can get my jack stands under the rear side lips. Right now I just use the two floor jacks on the rear side lips to raise the rear end totally off the ground. The problem with this is that I don't like crawling under my car with just jacks holding it up. I just feel "safer" when I can use jack stands. How do fellow yarisworld members address this problem?

I use wood.

Use some small hunks of 2x4 to fill the gap between jack and jack point, or place the jack on some short 2x4 runners.

I find that the car is stiff enough such that once the front of the car is on stands, you can jack up the entire rear of the car from either side just in front to the rear jacking point (just in front of the rear wheels).

Not highly recommended, but I put jack at the middle of the rear axle. If you look carefully, you can kinda see the indicator of the midpoint.

DO NOT JACK THE CAR UP BY THE BEAM AXLE! It will bend, and kill your rear alignment.

If you must use the rear ssuspension to jack up the car, place the floor jack under one of the spring perches. It's a pretty flat place that's designed to take the weight of the car.

ive been doing this for the past 8 years

the chance of 4 jack stands failing at the same time is crazy

i still keep the jack under but still

I think the point cfiimei was making was to never get under a car supported only by a jack - not a jackstand. The potential of a jack to roll or accidentally compress is just too dangerous to bet your life on. A solid jackstand should be perfectly safe if properly placed and on level ground.

Is it OK to let the jackstands rest on the beam axle? One on each side?

It's a real PITA to get the rear jacked up high enough. I figure the way to do it is jack it up by the jacking points and put the jackstands on the beam axle.

Or jack it up under the springs and see if that gets it high enough.
