oooo yes I love that website im on it everyday lol
I was considering those actually...:)

Nice hardware, but it's not going to give you any more brake rotor mass, which is the real shortcoming of the Yaris brakes on a race track. Multi-piston calipers give you more clamping force and can provide better brake feel... that's not what the Yaris needs. On a fast race track, the brakes simply get too hot. Brake cooling ducts help, but some larger rotors would probably help even more.

The bling calipers by themselves aren't going to improve track braking ability one bit.

mmmm.... car porn!

the big bonus to running those would be some decent pads finally. As far as i know, there are no good pads for size caliper. i am willing to bet some part number cross referencing will yield good results...

Loren , you must be tired . :) I hate bling :)

Everybody knows that aluminum cools faster than metal (steel)composite , not to mention the weight savings .OK the weight savings is only 2-3 lbs per caliper .

I have seen brake failures . Alot of them due to overheated calipers . Whether melting the seals and/or boiling the fluid . Keep in mind a cool pad is just as important as a cool rotor . The only way a pad can cool is through heat disapation through the calipers or with an air duct . These calipers also offer an open end design which also allow more of the rotor to be cooled . Besides , these calipers cost $50 more than a new one(reman) from Auto Zone :)

I understand that 98% of the people on this forum will never get their brakes that hot , but to the 2% that do , these are more than bling .

LOL, i meant that there are few good pads for the stock yaris caliper. sorry! yeah, i see that, so yeah, there are probably a hundred good pads for it!

They don't say whether the smallest kits will fit on 15" wheels.

Yeah, you never seemed like the "bling" type to me. I guess I never considered the cooling properties of the caliper itself. And pad availability is a nice plus.

IF you need to replace your calipers, anyway... I can see the advantage.

The do the first few times...

Then they get hot and start fading. Then they get hotter and quit working altogether! Been there, done that... fortunately, they recover quickly.

Those calipers are not a bad price at all. I'm still thinking I'll spend the money on a decent wheel and tire set up though. Although those have now made it on my higher priority list.

with a good high temp pad (hp+ or blue) and fluid, they should do fairly well since the car is light, but a little bit of ducting could go a long way!

loren, what kind of pads are you running now? im going to look into what other calipers may have the same part number so we can possible get another pad on the car, but i dunno what the chances of finding another are. have you done any ducting yet?

At California Speedway and the Streets @ Willow Springs I didn't experiance any brake fade. I'm running the Carbotech XP8 pads in the stock calipers up front, and the 917 shoes out back. I changed the fluid to ATE Superblue DOT 4. I also upgraded to slotted rotors.

These two track outings were on 500TW tires and stock suspension, and the brakes were more than up to the task of cooking off the tires after about three laps at both tracks (it's a pretty wierd feeling when the front tires start squirming around under the car while threshold braking, and getting so hot and gooey that they don't make a sound while 4-wheel drifting on corner exits:thumbup:)

I have a set of Rota's wrapped in RT-615's for the next track day, so we'll see how things hold up....

The tires will work the brakes a lot more, but I don't think things will get to heavy for the stock brakes.

If anyone is interested, Garm at www.microimageonline.com is the guy to go to for the Carbotech pads and shoes.

woah, they have carbotechs for our car?? i have heard alot of great things about carbotechs!! they even make shoes? :w00t:

yeah, it'll be interesting to see how the brake temps change with the new tires, i think your on the right track though wise, hope they hold up!! i think that they should be fine up until you go to slicks.

cool man, i cant wait to do a track day in this car!

I've got some sort of Endless high-end street pad on the car. They're better than stock pads, but they do indeed have an "End"!

Yes, some brake ducting did help.

I agree, a really good track pad, high temp fluid, and some cooling ducts should be all any of us will really need.

Don't know what to tell ya, Tamago. I got brake fade really bad at Carolina Motorsports Park, and a little less severe and less consistently at Sebring. With the brake ducting, I had no problem at Sebring. (Had a BLAST playing cat and mouse with a couple Miatas on street tires the last time I was at Sebring! One could barely keep up, the other one had me out-powered, but couldn't keep up in the turns until he got behind me for a couple laps and let me educate him... then the bastard passed me!)

On the stock pads, I used to get brake fade just doing a couple healthy autocross runs! Admittedly, I left-foot brake, which could have something to do with that.

Maybe the xA has better airflow to the brakes than the Yaris? That's really all it would take. The Yaris wheel wells appear to be pretty well blocked from airflow, quite possibly on purpose to reduce drag. It's made for economy, not performance.

Carolina Motorsports Park is notorious for being hard on brakes. Plus, your using those Endless pads, my faith in top brand JDM parts is pretty weak after my experiences.

Yeah, I'd have never gone with Endless, but my 2008 One Lap co-driver (Jeff aka 03Z33 or whatever his handle is here) got a deal on them so that's what we ran.

To be fair, they are good street pads. Problem is that we need good RACE pads for a Yaris on a race track.

Is anyone here actually installing these on a Yaris?

Wonder what would be required. Custom brackets?

Outlaw has many different sizes . Hopefully it will be a bolt on affair . I am currently researching .............

Many things come into play . Disc thickness (.866) and diameter , pad surface area and disc depth , and mounting center . Just to name a few . If there is a caliper that will fit the Yaris I will let everybody know within a couple of weeks . (Right after my snowboard vacation March 9-15 )

With all this talk about brakes and big brake kits and this and that. I'm glad I have my stock calipers still.

I have these two giant gaping holes in the front end which leads to a clear shot of the wheels and brakes. All that air going there cools them off really nicely. Now no more overheating. On my stock front end, all I had to do was take out those black covers (on the RS the fog lights) and take out the wheel liner.

You removed the complete wheel liner? Don't you worry about dirt and water getting into the engine bay?

I just bought 10ft. of RV sewer hose and was going to duct air from the fog light inserts to the brakes like Loren did.

Let me find Loren's pictures and Largeorangefont's pictures. I'm just going to copy their setups.

Edit: Ok, here's the original thread. Good pictures to give you an idea of how to do it.

Snow, dirt, water everything gets inside. Well, sorta.
It started out with the wheel liner intact, but a couple of well placed cones took care of that. LOL.

My older cars (pre 1980) didn't have plastic liners in them, so I have no worries. It's more the hole in my hood where rain gets into my engine that I worry about.
