Hey peeps, Drove a Mazda 3 Turbo today and well :burnrubber:
Fell in love, been looking around the forum and seen that adding a Turbo the Yaris is pulling 160-180Hp, i think thats awesome consifering its 106Hp Factory
So im interested in the upgrade
Seen some kits Zage, Saw something on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/Toyota-Yaris-1NZ-FE-engine-turbo-kit-with-Greddy-ECU_W0QQitemZ150325477468QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Car sParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item150325477468&_trksid=p3286.m63.l1177

Im pretty sure were talking about $2000 + investment here, im interested in hopefully just boosting the stock engine and (for now) something "simple" and tame, I dont Race, just liked the feel of when the turbo kits in :D

Suggestion, recommendation, a point in the right direction.

Main idea is a budget turbo kit(if that makes any sense)
Pros and Cons(if any)
whats needed
and what not to do

i barely broke $1200 out of pocket, and made decent power.

but i also am a fabricator so i wasn't paying anyone to do any work for me

Well with no access, to shop like yours and no experience manufacturing, im gonna have to get things made, so thats $$
unless you or anyone lol wants to donate they time

I like your system, you places the CAI in a spot ive been thinking of using, like the intercooler on top, i would like something like that so you cant tell its a turbo until i drive it :D good ideas Thanx man

Apart from the Turbo, Piping, intercooler, waste gate(correct me if im wrong) what else is needed?
Do I NEED to change injectors, tune the ECU?

tuning will not be my department, as we have different ECU protocols

if you run my kit, it will include tC injectors.

Should i also be looking at a new Exhaust? i was thinking of getting the Nitto(before i wanted turbo) will it work well?
My Car is completely stock, with the exception of a K&N Drop in filter

do I smell a RWD conversion on the way?

I just don't see you persuing such a hefty goal on a FWD...

I guess it won't be 1NZ powered either.

Yes i know this but also the land of hustlers, Im trying to get info on what i would need and what would work so i go into it understanding the whole process better..

Look over here they turbo a go cart fine.. a friend has a WRX and recently spent a ton of cash to put in a Turbo.. after 3 months the turbo was done
The Car never worked well he had to take the turbo out , he didnt know what he was getting into and the guys that did the job didnt give a rats ass

i wanna research on how its done whats needed and what i should expect from the finished job.
This is a Yaris Forum who better to ask

400whp from a 2zz or 4agTe is pushing it.. i'll be using something with a little bit bigger displacement

With the rear end of an AWD Celica...

... better yet, a mid ship set up with MR2 rear end.
It would be MR-X :bellyroll:

hey Arkhangel,

since this thread is about what's needed to turbocharge the yaris, hope you won't mind if i have a few questions as well instead of opening a new thread? let me know if it's not ok and i'll remove the post.

Tamago,

where does the turbine oil return line goes to? did you fabricate a nipple at the oil sump? i know i can fit in an adaptor and get the oil feed for the turbine from the oil pressure sensor.

for the moment for low boost ive found (and correction are welcome)
T04 Turbo(not sure if this a standard model or a company specific model but that how ive found them)
#
HIGH FLOW TURBO INTERCOOLER - SIZE : 28" X8" X 2.5" WITH 2.5' INCH INLET/OUTLET

A Turbo Manifold, seen them on ebay, but might be easier to have one made

a MAF Translator with A/F Tracking

Piping will just have to have that done here

what Else am i missing?
BOV right?
Need to hook up to the Oil system to lub the turbo(is that right?) and a Oil Cooler(?)

Also for those interested found some Kits on Ebay(AKA Fleebay lol)

skip the intercooler for low boost, or use something from a saab or VW. huge intercooler just hurts turbo spool performance.

or run water/meth injection to supplement the lack of an intercooler

arthurtoo

i'm planning on using a TD025 which is even smaller than a TD04. its from the mitsubishi eterna twin turbo. it starts spooling around 2500rpm. it costs RM300 which is less than USD100. good for everyday driving since i'm not looking for a monstrous setup. just want some boost around the daily driven rpm range for a more enjoyable drive. gonna use a small intercooler from the mitsubishi 4G93T which won't really hurt the spool performance.

i don't know if you can get the TD025 from north america though.

Hey Arkhangel you should use a T15 turbo (used on stock Toyota Startlet Glanza). Regarding intercooler you should use a top mount one also like the glanza, it will reduce costs of piping.

Just to add, I don't recommend boosting the yaris with stock internals even at low boost. One tried to boost like you want and bent a rod within days. Also make used to engine check lights and codes etc... Although I wish u good luck for your project, If you want some serious driving buy a car made for it or else prepare some money to beef it up!

ok what would be the minimal of things needed to do a low boost set up?

- Starlet Glanza Top mount intercooler
- Glanza Stock Turbo (T15 size) with internal wastegate
- Upgraded MAF sensor
- Turbo Exhaust mainfold, preferably equal length, custom made for your turbo in discussion
- Custom piping
- Exhaust upgrade without cat for good performance

that's a lot of money for an ebay turbo IMO

and as stated before, you don't want a tiny glanza intercooler. source one from a saab, mr2, or VW
