I bought the basic Yaris Liftback....no power windows, mirrors etc. I'm getting tired of rolling up & down the passenger window and the mirrors suck...having to adjust them from outside the car. I put 5k down, payments of $128/mo so I've got some equity and only 12k miles. Should I trade in and get the upgrades since I'll have this puppy for another 5 years at least......prolly longer. I may as well have what I want......right? Just curious what you guys think. OR  ?

The power package is nice.
"I may as well have what I want......right?"
That is exactly what I thought, and that's why I flew to Denver to buy mine.
A car lot there had almost exactly what I wanted, I had them add fog lights at the dealership and then it was exactly.

I personally would rather have manual windows/locks. It is not that much of an inconvenience to me to reach over. My Yaris is the first new car I've bought (I think everyone should have the experience of buying at least one new car). I will never finance another car. You'll at least loose $4,000 by trading it in, probably more. Also, Power windows/door locks make the car heavier, costing you more at the pump/quarter mile times. How often does one need to adjust the mirrors?

If it is important to you, then trade or try to sell yours and then go buy the new one. I knew I had to have the power package when I got mine. I wanted that split fold flat seat. The windows, locks and keyless entry are great pluses though.
You gotta be happy with it.

This was my first new car buy.
I didn't finance it, I payed cash and since I was doling out money for my first new car ever I was determined to get exactly what I wanted.
I can honestly say nearly a year later, I'm completely satisfied with my choice - no regrets whatsoever.

If it's really bugging you, then do it!
I have the basic version, but I like it just fine the way it is, really don't mind rolling up my own windows. The only upgrade I'm considering is adding a GPS unit, and when the time comes, trade for better tires, that's about it.
I might trade in for a slightly more powerful car at some point, but not for a while.

My Sedan was my first new car also. My rational was if I was going to spend the bucks on new it had better have what I want in it so I dont regret later as I would for sure be spending at least 5 years in it. Also your going to loose money on new no matter what options you get so just get what makes you happy....thats why I went with the Sedan Aero package with all options other than a/c, which really threw the dealer lol

My Yaris was far from being my first new car, nor was it the first one I've owned that had manual windows and locks. To be honest I am happier without them, the car is small enough that reaching over to roll down a window or unlock the passenger door is no big deal.
Honestly, it is just something electrical that can break and which will require a mechanic to fix, whereas if it is mechanical than I have a chance of fixing it myself!
Cheers! M2

Don't worry, be happy. Added cruise to my base model and now I'm happy. "Oh, I just can't turn the crank to roll the window down...." If I ever get to that point, just shoot me.

Power windows / locks are a pain when they fail, ask a dealer what the replacement cost of a window motor and regulator (they usually come as one) is and be sure your sitting down when U ask - signed no power package here !

yaris-?...And how often do they fail?
Bob, just do what many others here have done and put in some aftermarket ones. Although a Yaris with good equity, you're still going to get the financial shaft, no one but the dealor wins in any auto transaction.
I forget if you have a significant other, only get it if you need another car. It doesn't make financial sense to make this particular "trade-up." ...Especially in this climate.

I got mine with manual windows and locks because I've had too many cars where they failed (summer in Texas with windows that won't roll down, SUCKS) To tell the truth, I missed the power windows at first, but now I'm used to the crank (After I learned not to smash my hand on any bottle placed into the door bottle holder!) I do, however, miss the remote/power locks my old car had... When people get out of my car, I have to make sure they lock the door, and I've already left the passenger side unlocked overnight once or twice... Will have to see about getting an aftermarket fix...

No. Buying and selling cars often costs a lot of money. You never get taxes back. I have set my mirrors once and thay have been fine ever since. Whos to say in a few years that you wont be happy with your new Yaris and want something different since once again there is equity. If you do get the new car, don't trade in sell your old Yaris on your own and save yourself $2,000.

Agreed. Bottom line...what really bugs me are the mirrors. When I scrape ice or squeegy water they get knocked out of wack and I can only align them from the driver seat. I don't really mind rolling up the windows that much. Also....I'm looking towards the new iQ.....hmmmmmmmmm
Thanks everyone for your input.

I might get an IQ a year after it hits the market. You might be able to use your snow brush to adjust the passengers mirror from the drivers seat.

My daughter bought a 07 Yaris and it came with almost every option available at the time...no cruise control and no keyless entry. I would have bought one two years ago but I wouldn't buy a car that didn't have a cruise.
In 09 they were available on the LB so I bought one. I have almost every option and can say they are wonderful to have. I can't imagine having the car without these creature comforts.

WOAH WOAH WAOH... thats going too far...... Power windows and locks kit will come to you for about less than 200$.... as for the sideview mirrors im not sure... But less than 200$ is much more worthwhile than trading in a car.....
