Awesome! Thats exactly what I was looking for! :w00t:
So, I was comparing the 12" xxx to the 12w7 and the xxx's (if my math is right) can move a tad over 2 more liters than the w7s, which to me says it has potential to be much much louder. But what about sq? And the overall sound of them? I'm still shopping around. Thanks in advance.

the W7's are very nice although it's more than common knowledge that they are greatly over priced.
In my opinion the XXX Series shouldn't even be compared to the W7's and if given the choice I'd take a XXX 12 over a 12W7 any day.
The SQ for the W7's is very good, that's what they are made and known for. The XXX series which I've had the honor of hearing are just as crisp if matched with the respective recommended enclosure and DAMN louder.
It's incredible how that sub can move only 1-3MM and be way more than enough bass even for me.

hmm. im all to aware of the very high price of jl stuff lol. it's the main reason why ive only bought their stuff once, albeit i still love those two 500/1 amps i purchased. well, if i stuck an HD750 on each voice coil, do you think the awesome power of the sub combined with the amazing quality of the jl hd amps would make it the best setup evah? or could it be a bad combo?
and if you have any other brands you suggest, feel free to do so. I'm still shopping around. :)

Start there ^ These guys have VERY nice equipment for sale and are always getting rid of amazing stuff for very cheap.
Other brand to look into are FI Audio, Elemental Designs , Digital Designs (definitely), Incriminator Audio, Treo Audio, Soundstream, Orion.
But if you strapped two HD750's to a 12" or 15" XXX and put it in a vented box it wold be ridiculous....in the best way.

The Original RE XXX was awesome because it used a voice coil design called XBL^2 (XBL squared). They licensed that patented technology from a company called Adire Audio. Basically... the tech allowed the sub to have the same amount of magnetic force on the voice coil no matter how far the coil was away from the magnets. This allowed for good x-max while maintaining AWESOME sound quality.
Adire Audio thought up the technology after JL audio came up with the W7. The W7 took JL something like 3 years to make... Adire Audio took one weekend to find out a cheaper way to do the exact same thing... and then started making subs a few months later.
I never owned the XXX, but I did own the Adire version which was about 5% less SPL, and 5% more SQ geared. It was called the Brahma. Best sub I ever owned... And I paid about 40% as much for it as I had for my eclipse titanium that I owned previous.
I had a friend put dual 18" XXX's in his home theater in 8cuft boxes tuned around 20hz and then gave them 5200rms via a pair of peavey 2600 amps.
I also had a friend put a single XXX 18 in a wall in his 2 door civic and throw 3000+ watts at it for competitions.
My brahma 12 (which was virtually the same, main difference being a copper voice coil versus an aluminum) was given as much as 2000watts for competitions.
The Current RE XXX uses a different technology which I believe is not as good, but still decent. Its basically a fancy way of winding the Voice coil so the coil is fatter near the top & bottom... I think its called LMT. The newer XXX subs are much more expensive I believe too... unless you can get a decent deal. RE is slowly moving out of the DIY market and more into the mainstream market.
Regardless of what amps you hook up to it... it'll sound good. Both versions are quality products. The first version (with the XBL^2) was damn near impossible to make sound bad.
If I had the money, I'd pick up two of the 18's, and run them in my HT setup right now.... I don't want a sub in my car, cause I've found a way to get adequate bass doing a 3-way setup using 8" midbass drivers (that use the XBL^2 technology)... but otherwise I would for sure be running a small 10" sub that used the XBL^2 or as a 2nd choice the LMT motor technology.
EDIT:
The JL was designed with slightly different goals than either the brahma or the original XXX sub. All three subs are basically SQ woofers, but due to their motor technology, they can get ridiculously loud while still sounding great. The JL I believe is the pickiest of the bunch in terms of box requirements however.

Fi and soundstream seem pretty baddass. The xxx from soundstream has numbers that are just stupid rediculous in reference to power handling lol.

yea at that point you're almost crossing into overkill unless that's what you're into.

You will go deaf either way. It really just depends if you want to get Deaf without hearing music or not.
w7 - wayyyy better SQ
xxx = spl oriented
I think it would be a waste to strap on JL HD's on an Re XXX.. Thats just IRONIC imo.
Anddd, Good luck mounting the XXX. And with all that extra weight from the sub alone, You'll always have a passenger in your car.
Do you got any deadening going on? I feel bad for your car :D.. and all of those around you. Your bumpers are totally going to rattle !

how does crystal comp x212 compare to the xxx?

naw the XXX can handle tons of power but in the end its just a a single 12 or 15 in sub. I've had 2 18's 2 12's 1 15..and now 18 and my hatch doesn't rattle, the bumper and the license plate do not rattle and even nothing inside the car noticeably rattles.
also the W7's sq is of course very nice but its not OMG ITS WAYYYY BETTER...its very nice but far from being the best in the world and certainly better than other brands simply because they're less mainstream than the "almighty" JL

I know that W7's aren't the best SQ you can get in the world.. Sorry if i portrayed that?
I know a handful of subs that are capable of outdoing it in the SQ department..and many more so in comparison with the xxx.
I Never thought the xxx as an SQ sub. In all the reviews i read, things i've heard, And people laughing over it, i guess i'm just wrong. - actually I think it was designed sql. And yeah, the xxx will just gobble the power. I just thought it was ironic to dish that much money out on the hd amps.

-- Lucky you with Zero rattles. I have a sedan and I stuck my friends 13w6v2 in it and the rear bumper rattles a ton. And you have no idea how much deadener i got in my car. :o. As for the interior everything shakes, rearview mirror tips all over.

I fucking hate the term SQL...
You can be awesome at SQ (great response 20hz-20khz)
You can be awesome at SPL (you break 150 on a termlab)
You can spend 10x as much as either and do awesome in both (20-20k + 150)
or You can sound fairly good at a respectable volume level. (decent 30-20k, and peaks up to 140dB)
SQL would really only exist if you did the 10x as much.
90% of the audio world strives for the "fairly good at a respectable volume", some people pull it off much better than others.
