Actually a lot of thailand guys are running the zage turbo kit and seem to have no problem with it. They are also putting down good numbers (I believe 150+whp). However, the issue would be the tuning. Also, I don't know if their zage turbo kits are of better quality than the ones offered on ebay.

The Zage kit looks like the HKS kit for the xa/xb, i wouldnt be suprised if they made it for them.the early version of the kit looks identical to the HKS minus the intercooler that comes with the Zage kit.

Zage wants a hair under 2 grand for their kit shipped stateside, no tuning included... so according to what is commonly known, toss a standalone on top of that. It is still an expensive venture. I could spend that much to have a shop make a custom setup, and they'd probably put 30 more HP to the ground... and I'd have someone to blame if something went wrong. IDK.

putting out 30 more hp is mostly in tune and turbo selection. a kit does not decide power output unless the turbo is highly undersized

My guess is that the Zage turbo IS undersized to provide reliability at the expense of HP.

I still say the Zage kit would be a good start, just replace the Turbo with something more, well trustworthy.

I think one problem's convenience... as affordable as this kit may be, until we have a turbo solution that's as "simple" to install as the Blitz SC (bolt this here, bolt this there, splice these wires, go!), we're not gonna see many turboed Yarii anytime soon.

But lets say... I switch the turbo cause every1 says it sucks... and i knew how to install the kit. And I ran it for 6 months safe, would every1 buy it? lol

that, and the fuel issue.

buying a jdm ecu wouldnt work right?

If, like the Blitz SC Pioneers, you can give clear and concise explanations of each step to success, then I am sure it will encourage others to follow suit.

Doubtful, I'm quite sure they'll be mostly identical to your stock one. There again we need someone to show us exactly how to make an aftermarket piggyback work properly. It's been done, Blitz can do it with their fuel controller, it's just a matter of figuring out the trick so that anyone can do it

A turbo is a pretty 'deep' project for someone's daily driver. Even a proven bolt-on kit would only be popular with certain owners, and I think very few of us.

I'd like to see cdyjded (sp) post wiring diagrams and step by step for the AEM FIC. Now THAT would be a large step in the right direction. And how about those overseas guys with successful installations?

Why aren't we sharing technical data??

mrbond
08-18-2009, 11:57 AM
^ that's exactly what I've been waiting for as well. It's one thing to say that an FIC has been installed successfully, but it's an entirely different thing to SHOW the rest of the community how they did it.

interesting..

so judging by the turbo threads of the past, we will successfully have a proven bolt on turbo kit for our yaris in about... 3 years? lol

hell even if it comes out in 3 years thats fine with me, i want to make the most of my warranty
