Does anyone have a picture of the empty space where the stock head unit mounted; i.e., before they installed an upgraded deck? I'm curious to know if an DIN standard unit will fit; or, what modifications need to be done.
I remember a few pictures before the crash so if someone has one I'd be appreciative.

There have been many discussions about the OEM radio size. It is 200mm wide, which is not standard DIN width (which is 180mm wide). To replace the HU on a LB you need the Metra or equivalent kit (which fills the gap). There is an OEM 180mm wide radio trim piece which is used with the integrated TomTom Navigation system. Thus far the TomTom HU option isn't available in the US and no one has been able track down the part number for that tirm piece yet (if it can even be ordered separate from the kit). There was also a recent post about an ebay 180mm wide opening aftermarket replacement trim piece.

when i bought my sedan in the summer of 06, there were no trim kits available for it, and my car was a radio delete model, so i built my decks mounting plate from scratch out of aluminum.
however, because i had a radio delete sedan, there was trim made to fit around the opening for a radio. you can see the pictures of the completed install in my garage pics.
as far as room behind the factory bezel, there is a ton of room, and if you have fabrication skills, you can fit all sorts of deck sizes in the hatches and sedans.

Thanks for this. I guess I'll have to pull it apart to see what's what. I want to change out the factory unit for something different. I remember pre crash a thread with pictures and such but now that I think about it the person fabbed up a trim piece similar to yours.

yeah, sorry i dont have pic's of it, i just had it apart again a month ago to put in a new deck. you have room behind to install pretty much any size of deck, the problem isnt that, its trying to get a trim bezel that will look good if your car wasnt a radio delete or base stereo car. i had it lucky, and it was one of the reasons i decided to buy my yaris in the first place, a nice open spot to install my goodies...most new cars have the head unit integrated into the dash so its a PITA to put in something aftermarket.

Keesue has a USDM liftback though, which doesn't have the integrated HU (like most USDM sedans), but rather just the slightly oversized one. So, the silver bezel doesn't have to be changed. With the standard one, just the Metra type fillers are needed. With many HU's the Metra fillers really don't look bad. You basically just end up with a 1 cm wide black piece on either side of the HU. If the HU is black it's really not even noticable.

Ah. I'll look into these Metra fillers. I'll do a seach unless you have a link. Many thanks, fellas.
