Need help identifying a sensor and where it goes (pic included)

Part of the aftermath of running over a rimless tire late one night, was this sensor being knocked off some place where it should be clipped to. Can anyone tell me WHAT sensor this is and what it does...and where it belongs to? I just want to make sure it goes back in the correct location, thanks! It's coming from the front drivers side if it's any help.

looks like an outside/ambient air temp sensor


you have automatic air conditioning

Not that I'm aware of. It's just a 2008 LB with Cold weather package. That's what I was thinking is that it's some sort of outside air temp sensor but I'm just wanting to know what other people might think. Anyone else have a good guess and also where it belongs clipped to?

updated my first post....do you have an outside temp readout on your display?


if not then it might be your front impact sensor....but I thought the wiring conduit was yellow....

you can try removing the sensor from the circuit (unclip it) and turn on the car and see if the air bag light comes on...it won't deploy the air bag

It is the ambient temperature sensor for the A/C system.

therefore we should be able to get the temp readout on the dash :iono:. why does Toyota do this (turns off features clearly present ). i still need someone to send me a pic of the cluster PCB, there has to be a way of enabling the display without using the ECU (i.e jumper settings)

I"m just having a bit of a hard time trying to see how to make the sensor stay where it's mounted in the pictures. Wondering if I'm missing something where the sensor should be attached to the metal frame.

It looks like it just form fits to the sheet metal. Maybe a piece snapped off when yours came loose. Perhaps a little silicon or epoxy to make it stay now?

Yeah that's what I'm guessing might have happened. I'm going to have to try getting in there when the rain clears and see what I can attach it to so it's not flopping around. I appreciate the help, thanks again.

YES! I'm interested if the temp sensor could be used in the meter display to show the outside temp. Then I could get rid of my ghetto Velcro mounted display on my dash.

USDM ones don't. The ambient temperature sensor feeds into the Air Conditioning Amplifier (the ECU for the AC). It has a limited temperature range, so it wouldn't be ideal for feeding a temp display.

I have looked everywhere on my car but can't find the ambient temperature sensor cable. Just in case it was cut off by previous user of my car, where can I find it and reconnect?
