View Full Version : What do you think about adding vinyl graphics to side of a silver 2008 Yaris Sedan?

What do you think of putting something like this on:
https://www.decalkits.com/decal_images/decal260.jpg
or
https://www.decalkits.com/decal_images/decal272.jpg
?
Painting costs way too much
Has anyone tried this?
Or is there anywhere to get specially Yaris-made ones?
Or do you think it'd just look stupid...?

I had a friend do it to a Talon looked dumb and everyone gave him sh!t for it. He also did it after the 2nd fast and furious movie came out.
If it is a pretty modded up car, adding some vinyl graphic on the side looks nice I think, but it will looks a bit stupid on a non modded one.
I think the graphic design of the second one is not bad, maybe change the color of the vinyl to match the theme that you want your car to go with. ie. black
IMO, simple graphic design that flow well with your car is always better than the one that looks more complicated.

The 2nd worst thing to ever happen in the world of automobile enthusiasts. The 1st being the original Fast and Furious movie.

If I saw someone with a graphic on their car, it depends on what else the car had and who was driving it... I do think the spider is really really bad ass lol, but it depends on who was driving it. If it was paired with a ricer or ghetto looking car and person, yuck. But I think some cars/people could pull it off.
This is what I want to do to mine ****not my car picture, borrowed from the black yaris pic thread** I just shopped the graphic.

I just need to find a good place to do custom graphics.
Maybe you can do something smaller since everyone thinks the huge full side looks rice lol? Idk, even if anyone says what I want looks dumb.. I think I'm still going to do it because its what I want :P Its your car, do what you want!

I've done up my bone-stock silver Yaris Liftback with decals, but mine were custom-designed for the Liftback body by an artist friend of mine, and I had the shop size them to fit the car correctly before installing them. Cost about $200 for the install, and then some for the art from the artist.

Haha... well... I've never seen Fast and Furious... or any other "car" movie, for that matter.
But I guess if it looks rice... I won't do it.
I was worried it might end up looking tacky.
I'm just kind of bored with my car and I want to do something to it.
Like, the thing is, with the liftback... practically anything looks pretty awesome. But idk about the 4d sedan?
Anyone got any ideas?
If all else fails, I just want a super large cupcake on it. Haha.

Go for some subtle interior stuff if you're worried about making the exterior look garish, like a lace-on leather steering wheel cover to match the car, shifter and e-brake boot maybe?
Or 'silver up' the outside of the car with some vinyl to match yoru paint colour on the rear windows, the micro-perforated stuff like they use on busses that's basically invisible from the inside but opaque on the outside? Little subtle 'wait... that's not right' stuff that make people double-take to verify what they saw, not because it's too outlandish, but too subtle, that's what I'd aim for.

If you're not into modifying your suspension or engine, but just want to express yourself, go ahead. Don't listen to the rice comments. There are a lot of negative people in this world and some of them are here.

Completely and totally agreed. It is a form of self expression, and anyone who would discourage that just because it was momentarily "mainstream"... I don't know man. You obviously want to do it, so do it!
Now, having said all of that it is quite easy to make things like this look extremely tacky via either just picking the wrong design for the car or picking a bad installer. I would take a lot of time to consider the design. Don't base your decision off what looks good on the side of an Eclipse, because you drive a Yaris. Find a friend who is good with Photoshop and look at graphics on YOUR car. The Yaris has some funny dimensions, and I'd bet it would look kind of silly with a black widow on the side, but you won't know until you see it.

The 2nd worst thing to ever happen in the world of automobile enthusiasts. The 1st being the original Fast and Furious movie.
If not for the first Fast and Furious, I wouldn't be here. That movie got me into the tuner scene -- I've had a blast, made many friends, learned to work on cars, learned to race (legally), and learned how to teach other people to race (legally).

hey Garm even got his hairstyle like Vin Diesel...
But seriously, as you can see, vinyls are a real love-or-hate thing on cars nowadays. Call it the Fast and Furious effect, yeah... The fact is, if you put in some effort to think how well the design works with the car, you can get some great effects. If you stick on some "cool" design you got from a shop, then 9 times out of 10 it'll look like ass...
That being said, experiment! Use photoshop if you're familiar, or else (gasp) trace out your car on paper and draw some different designs... It might cost a lil more to get a custom design printed, rather than an off-the-shelf one, but the results should be well worth it.
