Suggestions for a car cover?

My deal is that mine's been getting pretty dirty pretty quickly. Most of it has to do with the frequently-changing weather, but some of it also has to do with birds in my area with big appetites and lightning-fast metabolisms. I get the car washed, and only 2 or 3 days later it goes back to looking like the day before the wash. Anyways long story short, I decided today I need a car cover to protect it from the elements. I just want something that's durable and easy to clean. Anyone here had good experiences with theirs?:confused:

Good thread, as we had a hail storm a few weeks ago and unfortunately, the topless Jeep and motorcycles fill up the garage so poor Sprocket has to sit in the driveway.

There are some cheapo car covers at WalMart for $23 here; but I worry about them scratching the paint. I would also like something with a little more padding to protect the bodywork from any more hail we get (it's a rare phenomenon, but when it happens it is pretty bad). It would only be for occasional use, so I don't need anything elaborate.

So, any suggestions?

Why don't you put some furniture padding blankets like they have at U-Haul, underneath the WalMart cover? Just a thought.

How badly does yours get dinged-up by hail?

I was looking at the cheap $30 ones at AutoZone today and thinking that same thing. My paint and glass already scratch easily as it is, so that was a no sale. I wouldn't mind paying a little extra if I'm getting better quality...

It was only a brief storm with dime and nickel-sized hail, and I threw some old wool Army blankets I had over the car but by the time I had done that the storm has pretty much passed. It made a mess and for some reason the water really spotted badly on the car (wasn't sure if that was due to the blankets or for some other reason), but luckily Sprocket had no damage.

But the last time we lived here (1999-2002), we had a couple of much heavier hail storms and I fear one of those happening one day. And I don't think a simple, thin rain cover will do much good. I need something with a little padding in it, even the most minor of which would probably help.

To all those who contributed, especially the OP, did you guys find a suitable cover?

I apparently have found a need for a cover. The car getting dirty doesn't bug me, but the goat that wanders around and likes to climb onto things like...CARS.... has apparently justified the need for a cover. I was wondering what those little marks were that appeared out off no where when I'm washing the car.

Looks like a blanket then the cover? Unless the cover has enough padding.

Don't forget the 5 gallon bucket of Goo Gone for when the sun heats it of and all the glue in the tape ooozes onto your car... That and some tissues, because I'm sure you'll cry when you see your car when you finally get it off :cry:
