my girlfriend has an 06 aveo. her dome light works about 10% of the time, whenever it feels like it. wanted to be her hero and fix it, so i checked fuse and bulb. both seemed fine. any other likely answers?

If it only works once in a while, look at the wires for fraying and look at the switch itself. If there is also trouble when you open and close doors, look at the mushroom switcheds at the doors.

Try changing the bulb. It may be a broken connection between the glass bulb and the metal that connects to the socket.

I'm afraid the answer lies much deeper than that, and it's gonna be costly and hard to fix:
it's a chevy/daewoo...
But seriously yes, sounds like a bad contact in the wiring somewhere, good luck finding where!

Thomas beat me to it, lol...
Just try the bulb, I had the same problem with one of my parking lights on the Yaris, after I reinstalled the old bulbs once my LEDs blew.

I would buy her a whole new dome light, preferably wrapped up in a new car.... sometihng like a Yaris...

ha. yeah, not a fan of aveo. wish she would've gotten an 02 jetta like originally planned. thanks for the advice. will try bulb, then door mushrooms (ha), and if i can get to it, wiring behind the dome.

More than likely the contact inside the dome light housing is bent. You could try bending the tabs a bit and see if it works again. If not just place the whole dome assembly. Maybe 30 bucks for a used one. If you know how to use a multi-meter. Check the voltage at the terminals the dome light connects to and having someone open and close the door. See if the voltage is always constant when door is open like it should be.
