Anyone put in a performance radiator?

I was thinking of putting in a Koyo radiator, but seeing as how seemingly no one had installed a different radiator than stock, I'm questioning if I should do it. Plus I'm not sure if the fitment would be correct, considering there's the a/c cooler in front...
Anyone with any input/feedback?

My input is that you should be very clear why you want to do this.

I understand the possible need on a boosted and/or race-prepared car, but for the street I'm not sure there's any point. Unless you want points for car shows?

agreed, the stock radiator has PLENTY of cooling capacity, even on the really hot and humid tropical summer days here I never see abnormally high temps...

Yeah, I was planning on it being a show piece...and added cooling is almost always a benefit. See, the radiator is only like $145, which isn't bad at all. If it were above maybe $200 I wouldn't bother.
Garm, you probably know way more about this than I do: are the stock radiators adequate enough for street driving? Like, say, when the outside temp is around 95 and the a/c's on full blast? I had an issue with my Contour overheating and it caused uncountable problems; I don't want to repeat it with my Yaris.

the thermostat opens and allows coolant to flow from the radiator into the water pump..

that's the threshold.

even in boost, on a hot day, i never saw coolant exit temps (from the stock radiator) higher than 160F

According to my ScanGauge, my normal operating temperature is 184F. On hot days and stop and go traffic, I've seen it climb to 200F.

In fact, at the last autocross, it was hot and as we inched forward to the starting line, the temp went slightly over 200F. I kinda started getting worried. Obviously, there was no boosting going on in the paddock.

You know, I'm considering alternatives to the radiator. Like, an upgraded fan from Mishimoto or some other reputable company, an engine oil cooler, and/or those little cooling fin sheets from ARC that attach themselves to the engine block and the oil pan. If the radiator is sufficient enough for hot temperatures, even with a boosted car, then problems would lie in other methods of cooling.

I think it was in the mid-80's with no breeze. As long as the car is moving, the water temp will drop. To be honest, once they waved the green flag, I stopped looking at the ScanGauge.

Correct, unless I am at 25% throttle, the compressor does not engage. I am wondering what water temps other people are seeing at idle on a hot day?

yes, but if you want to know a radiator's efficiency, you need to measure water temp at the outlet to the radiator.

Wouldn't a lower-temp thermostat just open up at a colder temperature? I considered it but I didn't see how it could help cool the engine in a hotter climate after having driven for a while... Maybe I'm missing something? If I am, let me know because I want to learn as much about the whole cooling side of the Yaris as I can.
