View Full Version : Pulleys, pulleys, pulleys!

I'm looking at picking up some NST Pulleys (probably from Micro Image) and was just wondering on people's opinion on the benefits of replacing just the crank pulley vs crank and water pump vs crank, water pump, and alternator.

Also people's opinion of going with underdrive pulleys, vs, umm... none underdrive pulleys on the yaris.

This exact post has been answered a few times before.

But...

Underdrive > Regular Light weight

Crank Pulley > Alt & wp Pulley


Unless you are planning on going supercharged... go for the underdrive crank pulley. That's the first one on the list.

Then if you have the $$ you can get the Alt & wp Pulleys. Those are a nice complement plus they will make you engine bay look nicer...

And can't go wrong buying @ microimage...

That says it all. As much as I would like to sell complete sets, the crank pulley is the mod you will really feel.

The underdrive pulley is the mod you really feel! Crank is only good if you are supercharged.

^ LOL. The underdrive pulley IS a crank pulley. Just smaller.

True true! I always refer to the underdrive pulley as "the underdrive pulley", but always called the "crank-lite" pulley the "crank Pulley." What's wrong with me!

The other pulleys are mainly engine dress up. Expensive engine dress up.

All NST Pulleys are roughly 70% lighter than the OEM pulleys they replace.

The more weight reduction, the better the overall throttle response, increase in acceleration, and in fuel efficiency.

The majority of our customers buy our Underdrive Crank Pulley first because they think to themselves, "can a pulley swap actually be that good?!" They come back a few months later to pick up our accessory pulleys after they experience the benefits of the crank pulley.

Okay now i have to buy a crank pulley now =). Well maybe in a few weeks i need to space my mods out. Been doing too many as of lately.

The only thing really holding me back right now is my car is still new. And i drive it really hard. If anything were to happen to it its covered under warrenty right now. Once i throw on some pulleys they can try to claim i put on a aftermarket crank pulley which contributed to engine damage. Even if it didnt.

Doesn't changing the pulley affect the engine balance? There has to be some drawback or Toyota engineers would have done this in the first place, no ?

no, this kind of question always appears. the fact is, unless the manufacturer of said product gives either a 'donation' or the likes to the car manufacturer,or the manufactureres both want to test out a product on a standard issue car, or the car manufacturer wants to make a performance version of the car. most of the time you may see some dealerships with a special vehicle equipped to the teeth with mods. its for sales and sponsors and promos....

No. Toyota engineers are responsible for producing a +/- $12,000 car, so they leave out a lot of nifty stuff. Like a center console. :frown:

No one, period, has ever had an issue with NST aftermarket pulleys.
