My new exhaust setup: 2.25" header back w/ resonator and magnaflow muffler. Mandrel bent and aluminized piping. Loud as fart inside the car. Need to get some dynomat and sound proof the car ASAP.

lol. The choice was ALLL MINE and I LOVE IT! Sorry if you don't approve. :headbang:

:burnrubber:

damn, sounds sick!! do you feel any gain on ur butt dyno?

I feel more HP in the higer RPMS, it now feels like the car can just keep going to 120mph no problem, if I let it! Can't wait for the 1zz throttle body!

I know! It's horrible! I can't launch for jack. I spin the tires! So to avoid that, I don't give it any gas before I "launch." I need to be taught by vin diesel from fast and the furious how it's done.

If I ever "race" anyone, it'll be on the freeway. So i'm not worried about my 0-60 times. I'll just be throwing it down to third and taking off from there!

PETERPOOP

I can make it, but the question is, will the medic at the scene know to upload it to yarisworld?

It sounds loud as fart right now! It's seriously giving me a headache. I am going to be purchasing some dynomat (sp?) very soon!

LtNoogie

I doubt the dynomat will help as much as you would like. I have most of a box of RAAMmat in the trunk area and you heard how loud it still was during acceleration. I think the only thing that wil help is to stuff an old mattress in the back.

PETERPOOP
03-18-2009, 11:23 PM
lol. TRUST ME there is no comparison between your TRD axleback to my no cats w/ resonator Magnaflow muffler in the interior noise department; and that isn't something i'm bragging about! hah.

If the padding doesn't help, I am seriously contempplating another resonator; if there is any room.

PETERPOOP

There are TINY holes in both of the tips when the pipe turns flat. Smart design. The entire reason i got this muffler is because it turned up! haha.

I'm not sure if it can get into 7 seconds or not. If we had the professional drivers that drive every car's 0-60mph time when the cars first come out, it might easily make 7s? I don't know.

But I totally agree with you on the money/power ratio not being great. But I don't need to tune this thing and I'm glad with that. Acouple more things and my yaris is complete. :headbang:

That is one loud exhaust from the outside. It was loud even though you were 4 telephone poles away.

I've got to say I'm not a fan of when it goes into the raspy mode. Maybe it only does that when you are stopped?

Not sure what you're talking about, raspy? I love the tone of the muffler at every different pitch or tone it makes, it's just the volume of it that I need to fix.

I had the same muffler on a twin cam 1.9 saturn engine, it sounds great but on long hiway trips it was very hard to take. It got to the point I changed it for a magnaflow that had the silencer option that way you could add the silencer if I had a long trip.

Check that you have equal pressure from both sides, my exhaust pipe came in at an angle so more exhaust went out one side, when they straigtened the pipe in and I had even exhaust flow out both tips it got a bit quiter.

how long is it? you may add another small resonator right before the muffler, it works well on the evo's to kill the rasp.

PETERPOOP
03-19-2009, 01:40 PM
The resonator they threw on was some no name on. I think it's only like 14" long. grr.

I will measure it soon.

But yah, so what would be better? maybe i can have room for a high flow cat AND another resonator. I'll try take pics.

IDK how much room there is to fit a high flow cat or another resonator..

i hope you didn't pay more than $200 total for that setup.. keep an eye on it, it's gonna rust like crazy, especially in your salt-rich environment.

and yeah, it looks like they could have used a resonator at least 6" longer.

PETERPOOP

Look into magnaflow resonators.

I have an 18" long, 4" diam and it did wonders to quite things down and take away the rasp...

And agree with the others... don't count on dynamat to quite things down.
That stuff works great to make a quiet car even quieter...

But in your case it will just add weight and make a very little difference...

I am going with a 24" resonator in place of the one that is there now (14"). If I can't handle the noise, i can put a cat between the wideband and the secondary o2 sensor. But I am not planning on needing to, i hope.

Your exhaust looks like shit. Your car sounds even worse than the exhaust looks. No amount of dynamat is going to stop you car from sound like a 15 year old ricer. Did you just finish watching F&F 1 or something?

You're going to get tired of this very quickly and you realize what a mistake this exhaust setup was. Do yourself a favor and get a regular, straight through muffler installed on your car like this:

Your "criticism" is irrelevant to me because your taste is obviously different from mine. You have a panda on your hood and I have "VW" exhaust. I'd never put a panda on a hood of my car, and you'd never put a "VW" exhaust on a yaris. Why WOULD we agree on anything?

Weren't you suppose to be banned awhile ago? Let's follow through on this Yarisworld. Thanks.

On a side note, I will be going with a 24" resonator and go from there. Like stated before, if that isn't enough, a Hi-flo cat will be added.
