View Full Version : Proper coolant level?

Forgive the cluelessness, but what should the proper coolant level be? I just popped a look around my engine, and my coolant level seems much lower vs. where I last remember it (last summer).

Temp-wise right now, it's around freezing outside, and the level is ~1/2 way b/w the "full" and "low" marks. Is this normal, or should I be adding more fluid? I have no idea where the fluid could've went, there are zero fluid leaks on the garage floor. I've been using the block heater for ~2.5hrs in the morning, all winter long - but I've been doing that since I got the car years ago.

"The coolant level is satisfactory if it is between the "FULL" and "LOW" lines on the resevoir."

page 260 of the 2007 yaris sedan manual.

Thanks for the confirmation supmet. In the strictest sense the level is OK, and there is no reason for immediate concern.

However, is this scenario similar to engine oil level - where > min is OK, but level = max is the optimum. I'm also confused as to the processes behind the coolant apparently getting "consumed".

Mine was there as well, I just went to the dealership and bought a jug of the premixed coolant and topped it off.

The manual states you shouldn't have to flush until 160,000km I believe.
