I went looking for a larger throttle body today from a 1.8 I found one still mounted on a 2007 Matrix manifold. I did not have the manifolds side by side but it sure looks simular to the 1.5 manifold on the Yaris. That got me thinking would it work on our cylinder heads and maybe provide more flow, or is it even the same? I'm tempted to buy it to compare. What about the heads on those two engines are they the same castings ?, Could we use the short block 1.8 to increase displacement ? I'm going to look into this further, if anyone can shead some light let us know.

well the blocks are completely different (NZ vs ZZ), so swapping them would not be possible, but the intake manifold, maybe, who knows, might get lucky, if you can get your hands on one, give it a try!

Thanks, that's what I thought but was not certain, in my old school "daze" of building Datsuns they had 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 and there was a lot of interchagability between blocks heads, cranks, and pistons etc to yield higher compression ratios etc. Do you know if the cylinder heads are the same?
Im tempted to get the intake to compare the flange if it's the same, I will fill both with measured amounts of water to see if one has more internal volume, and may perform better. Why just change the throttle body if a manifold with more volume may work! :headbang: We could call it the low cost "Holdner"

LOL

I would try this but my wallet does not accommodate it this month or next month.
