she was 16 at the time, inexperienced. stupid. i dont think i will ever know the full story. even now, shes 19 and all she says is that it flipped over. haha...
by the way. i know this will piss most off on here. but i think that the ford focus that we had performed much better then our yaris. it seemed real fun to drive too. cup holders were actually usable too!

I find it interesting how the airbags didn't deploy. And unsettling.

cause Yaris' cup holders are unusable:iono:
what Toyota jokingly calls a cup holder is mid way between the steering wheel and the ouside side mirror, almost at the same level as your shoulder. This is not very easy (or safe) to reach for when you're driving. The "cup holder" is only an inch deep. Translation: if you put a cup of coffee in that supposed cup holder, even in normal, safe driving.... that morning black coffee is going to spill all over your business clothes and the rest of the car, making an awful mess.... not the best way to start off your day.

How many airbags does that Focus have? Just front, or side airbags as well?
If it has only fronts, I wouldn't be surprised that the airbags didn't go off because it would have been un-necessary to deploy them. The airbag sensors are behind the front bumper and look how relatively un-damaged the front bumper is on the first picture.
Airbags can be dangerous if they deploy when they are not supposed to. Its meant to counteract a frontal impact. If deceleration isn't severe you actually end up getting smashed in your face for no good reason.

I agree. I have to put my travel mug in the door water bottle holder.
But I still love my yaris.

Id have to disagree the cupholders being "unusable", I use mine for everything from pen holding, to holding mcdonalds drinks(coke and coffee) up to Coke bottles, starbucks cups, and I have never had a drink spill, and I dont drive smooth around turns:burnrubber:. Such a sad thing to happen to a car, hope no one got seriously hurt out of that.
I used to have the same car, a 2000 Ford Focus SE sedan. The cupholders on that thing were so wide, that anything UNDER a 44oz. drink would just roll out. And you couldn't put a 20 oz. bottle in the passenger side because of the dash curviture. Talk about cup holder fail.
And mine had the DOHC 2.0 engine with the good intake manifold (Focus's mfg'd in 99 had a better intake manifold than the later models) and it definitely didn't outperform my Yaris.

Nothing against anyone, but after seeing how many domestic cars my extended family have went through, I would never buy one..
I'm glad that your sister survived that.

Good to know a foci can survive a rollover!
Never have had a problem with my focus cup holders, but I think it had a slight redesign in 02' and mine is a 03. So you think the yaris has the same amount of power? I like my focus but I bought the most abused one possible it turns out, and I want to upgrade to a yaris. No regrets? I would also like to get above 27mpg to lol
No regrets at all. I bought my Focus for $4900, a year later I traded it in for $1500 on the Yaris. Even though I lost TONS on that deal, still a great investment on the Yaris.

I know, ryank said the focus needs 44oz cups or larger otherwise eveything falls over. he must have been missing the black inserts
Black inserts? Yeah, mine didn't have any black inserts. Mine was also made in 1999 though, one of the first Focus's made.
