When gas was $4/gallon Ford could have sold every Fiesta they could have got their hands on.

Not a new marketing ploy, using the latest media trends, but still good on Ford for actually examining their target audience and reaching out to them via a mechanism the vast majority of them use!
It is also nice that Ford is realizing that some of the cars that are popular abroad may start selling well in the US. It may be the reason it is the only major US manufacturer not asking for government bailout money!
Too bad the other US manufacturers are pursing idiotic ideas such as GM's two-wheeled failure (http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16040).

Saw an article on one about a year ago while in a waiting room at a Ford dealership. Based on the Mazda 2, iirc.

This was all over R&T and C&D mags couple months ago. The Fiesta is just the start-up of their new line of gas-sippers

Keep in mind that other car makers have a reply. They have smaller and more fuel efficient cars. Still it's a good start for Ford.

I hope it doesn't backfire on them. A few bad reviews will kill the car, fast...
