A question for the Puerto Rico people:

Saturday morning I am flying into San Juan, with the wife and kids (5 and 10), for a cruise. Our ship doesn't depart until 10PM, so I rented a car for the day. I used to frequently travel to Humacao for business and have spent quite a bit of time in San Juan and South and East of there (visited Old San Juan, El Yunque, Ponce, etc.)

I never got around to going West of San Juan and was thinking of heading in that direction for the day. Any recommendations on what to do or see?

Well the problem this days is that most of the places are closed. Here in PR the people celebrates Holly Friday, Saturday of Glory, Sunday of Resurrection...those days most of the island people travel to the west to stay at or near the west beaches. You can catch a little traffic there. The other thing is that you have to drive for about 2 or 2 and a half hours to get there.

The best way is first search a map in the internet the get familiar with the roads. Second rent a car for a day once you get on PR with GPS ( very helpful, if you have one is going to work here) If someone drive you is going to be more easy but it going to cost.

Riding to the west (PR 22) you can get to the Arecibo town. Arecibo is at the north coast in the middle of PR. You can get there in about and hour and a half w/o to much traffic. There's the famous Radio Telescope of Arecibo. Is going to be perfect for the kids if they like astronomy and science.

Near there are The Camuy River Caverns. That's a great and beautiful place. I think the adult price is only $12. Once you get there they travel you in a little train to the caverns.

Well check those pages, they have the phone numbers and make your plans. If you start travel at the morning you can easy get to the ship before 10pm. There's enough time. If I can help a little more please tell me.

Enjoy your trip...:w00t:
