It all happened so fast. I was coming home from work last night, and on the highway, I saw this rabbit on the middle lane!! And then, a fraction of a second later SPLAT!!!!!!!!!! Well, it was more of a loud rumble, as I crushed all the bones of this poor fellow. Anyways, I felt really bad for this little guy. It was my right front tire that caused his death. Now, that plastic piece in front of the tire, (what do you call it?) is very loose, and when I turn my wheels all the way left, it presses on it, causing some kind of noise. Is that piece easy to repair? Do I have to go to the dealer? Will that be covered under warranty? :iono:

Damn Easter bunnies are everywhere...
I think I know what you're talking about. I can't remember the name of it right now. I would take the wheel off and check it. It could be just a couple of bolts that flew off. Those plastic pieces are pretty strong. You could just go the dealer and buy the replacement bolts for a few bucks and install them yourself. That's what I did when I ran over a chunk of rubber bumper and broke an underside bolt

Its held up by just a few screws. Jack up the car and go underneight you will see what missing screws. Or broken bracket.

My girlfriend hit a rabbit on easter last year. She still hasn't heard the end of it... :bellyroll:
I'm a bit disappointed to hear that there was damage from it. I've hit 2 rabbits, 3 possums, 2 cats, and a dog in various cars(I love animals I swear. They just love to run in front of my car). But I've never had any damage at all.
Then again I've seen how flimsy the wheel well liner is(now I'm wondering which plastic piece krazee jojo is talking about)

Sorry for the lack of pics, I'll try to see if I can get some tomorrow....wish I knew how it was supposed to be so that I can have an idea of how to put it. It is like, I can push this plastic thing in, and then it just pops back out again....

Do you mean the fender liner? The plastic piece that goes around the front of the wheel? If so, it has a few clips, you can usually just push it back into place ... but if it's cracked, you may need a new one. :iono:

Maybe that explains why the Energizer Bunny keeps going and going and going...

Fender line....I think I may need a new one. Would the dealer cover this under warranty? I bought the car last year and it only has 13,000 miles on it.

They would first have you wait a whole hour or 2 while they inspect it to see if it was a factory defect. If they find out it was a road hazard collision, then warranty won't cover it. At least that's what they told me in my case.
IMHO you'd be better-off just buying the part(s) and installing it yourself at home. It'll save you a ton of time in wiping-off the rabbit guts and half-baking a story to tell the dealer

Thanks Krayzee jojo.....good idea. Now, where would I get that specific part? From the dealer, or would I have to order it?

Thanks for the link, Yaris-Me.....I'll try to find that part within the link. It seems to me after looking at it that I might need more than just screws, I might need another fender thingy. Will the dealer know what I mean when I ask for a fender thingy?

Your welcome, captain. I would go hit the local junkyards first to save a few bucks. The dealer should be the last resort.
You can also PM SailDesign, he might be parting out his old Y. He's not too far from you, Rhode Island

The fender liner mostly keeps your tire from slinging dirty water and mud around your engine compartment.

people shouldn't feel bad when the run over animals (unless it's a neighbor's dog...)
just think of yourself as the guiding hand of natural selection... you're merely culling the members of the population who haven't adapted to life around roads... soon, all the rabbits near cities will know how to cross the road safely...

I'm always worried I'll be driving home one day and see orange and white fur on the side of my road (my outdoor cat) I cant even imagine what kind of mental breakdown I would have, prob just stop my car and sit there in the middle of the road until someone came up to me because I wouldnt be able to walk up to it, or leave it.
Please be careful about the kitties guys =(
My more realistic nightmare is that it will happen somewhere I won't see and the person won't be courteous enough to stop/help/or just call to inform the cat is definitely dead =/ =/
Please drive carefully!! I love animals, but yes, they can be dumb, but someone's love doesn't deserve to die because of that.
