View Full Version : Someone tried to break into my car....again. Pics

So, for the second time in less than 4 months, someone attempted to break into my car. I say attempt, because last time I stupidly left the hatch unlocked and they got in that way...my fault. This time, however, I keep everything locked down. So, they tried to get in by prying the passenger-side door open. A-holes. They didn't get in, but they caused a bit of damage. The picture doesn't so it well, but the bigger area where they used for leverage is dented pretty well and there is metal showing. There are scratches all down the inside door frame and on the corner of the door. I hate people. I'm going to get estimates this week. I have a 500 dollar deductible...so I'll see what it will cost to fix, first. There's a Lexus SUV and a Mazda6 in the same parking lot. Nobody elses cars ever get touched. I leave NOTHING out and have a stock stereo. WTF?

I'm sorry for what happen. I also would be very mad if it was my "White Lady". Do you have any kind of alarm system installed? With the economy the way it is now, we can't take any chances. People are getting desperate. I've recently installed a great alarm. It basically tells you even if some one gets too close to your car. Little expensive, but, definitely worth! The name is Viper 5901. You should check it out. I hope everything works out fine! Happy Easter!

can it be used on a car without auto locks?

It would work. You just wouldn't have the open/close feature. You can find out more about the alarm at www.viper.com (http://www.viper.com) Just don't buy it from them. I bought mine from Ebay for less then $300.00

Hi Lisa , sad to here about your car , if you do get an alarm , you
can have auto locks fitted at the same time , for a little extra .
usely under $100.00, but it doesn't hurt to ask first.
Best of luck and happy easter.

Lisa, that inhales big-time. I guess these little things are just so good at holding value that they are beginning to be worth stealing. Shame you can't set it up to electrocute anyone who touches it.....

If it's the same ones as last time, they know there isn't anything worth stealing besides the stuff animals that I have sitting in those two pockets on either side of the climate control pillar. That's all they found to take last time. I feel like I'm being targeted. Nobody else is getting their cars broken into. :(

Sorry to hear that! I can see the damage on the picture!!:mad::mad: A...holes broke into my old car so many times, broke the lock, and everything  I know how you feel. :frown:

I had a car alarm installed at the dealership when I bought my 2007 Yaris. They installed keyless entry on the driver's side with the alarm. It's an aftermarket part called KS-2040, by Karr Security Systems. You can set it up so it locks and alarms goes on automatically when you exit the car, or you can do it yourself manually with a little remote.

Shop around, though, I'm pretty sure I got ripped off having it done at the dealership. But around here, where I live, they'll break the window if they see a quarter on the floor, so I wanted it done right away. :iono:

Hope that helps.

I am definitely looking into SOMETHING.

People will tell you that alarms go off all the time and nobody pays attention anymore, but I don't know, I feel it's worth it. Alarms may not deter a professional thief but it will deter some and people usually look when an alarm goes off in a parking lot. I think it's worth the money. I've seen more broken windows in the last couple of months, than I've ever seen before. This economy is not helping any.

Hope your insurance covers some of the repairs. :frown:

Does'nt look worth taking to a bodyshop for such small damage. I'd invest in a bottle of touchup myself.
I had some D!ck steal my SONY MiniDisc deck from my '93 Saturn years ago.
They twisted the lock cylinder with a real big screwdriver to get in. I had to completly disassemble the whole lock cylinder and bend everything back into shape bit by bit.
I think I knew who did it too!

What you can't really see in the picture is the dent created by whatever they were trying to pry the door open with. It's very noticable and won't look good with just touch up paint, I'm afraid. That and my friend tonight noticed the door must be bent, because it doesn't sit flush with the frame. This is going to be a fairly costly repair.

Is there damage that MUST be fixed asap?

I really believe the reason they are breaking into your car is the TRD sticker. These rocket scientists are thinking it would be fun to drive and sell all the TRD parts.

The stock stereo to a crack addict is only worth $5-$10 on the street......

Whoever did it were obvious rookies.

This past week I was in CT on business and the whole right side of my car got scratched up and door dinged. I feel your pain.

I think it's the tint on the windows. At night, you can't see into the car and because it's lowered and the windows are dark, I think the jerks are assuming there must be something in there worth getting at.

I don't know...I might have the windows retinted a lighter shade.

I'm not sure if it has to be fixed right away. The metal is showing through right at he crease on the roof. I'm afraid of rusting. I'll get estimates and opinions this week.

The use of a pry bar seems to indicate an amateur at work. A pro would have used a tool to open the door. Of course maybe the Yaris "pops" open if you stress the door hard enough. I'll have to take a look.

Sorry to hear you're going through this kind of crap. I"m waiting for it in my neighborhood, though so far we're not getting hammered by the credit crunch and the unemployment is still running for most people off work.

Here's some 'inspiration' for you...

Yeah, after my dads car had its window broken, we put an alarm on it, and keep mine inside the garage. This was not the only time something has happened, just a fwe weeks ago, someone backed up into my dads car or something did, and broke the taillight, and the plastic casing for the licence plate.

So from then on, I purchased a 5megapixel security camera. Works nicely, but needs tuning/a better lens.

Maybe these punks think the Yaris was easiest to break into and know that it doesn't usually have an alarm? The Yaris isn't a high theft vehicle so I think it's in hopes of finding a hidden valuable like a portable nav unit or iPod. That's my guess.

Well, I received some good news when I called my insurance company today...

my comprehensive deductible was already at zero but while I had them on the phone, I had my collision deductible changed from 500 to 50 and it raised my rates only about 10 dollars per month. I'll change that back soon, but for right now, it's the better option for me.

So, by next week I should be getting my little car all fixed up...again. :D

I doubt that I'd ever get mad enough or dumb enough to damage another person's car, but I wouldn't waste my time trying to break into a car hoping that I could find a toy to take away from that person, even though there are no visible toys...if I was mad I'd knife a tire or two, or three, and do a complete walkaround keying of the car; much more damage in under 30 seconds.

So did it happen during the day or at night? Is there parts of the parking lot (I assume you park regularly) that has high visibility like near the street? Maybe that would also help avoid future occurrences.

Sometimes I think it's just bad luck. For a longest time my house was the only one I noticed that was getting repeatedly egged, papered, mustard-n-fruitlooped, mailbox knocked down...after about the 10th time I finally just ripped the mailbox out of the ground and got a PO Box.

I had two friends back in the 80's the first of whom owned an 84 MR2. After the car was stolen twice in the first year, he had 4 120db horns installed in the car so that if anyone took it, their brains turned to mush. Unfortunately, it just increased the amount of vandalism done to the car.
The second friend owned a 66 chevy bel air that was a real bomb. It had rust and dings and dents, but that is not why it was a bomb. Arnie was a demolitions expert in Nam, and came back a little paranoid. We went to lunch one day and he cautioned me about putting my feet on the wooden box on the passengers side floor. Turns out, the reason he would turn his car off and on three times before he would drive away was to disarm the fuse on the block of C4 in the box.

Both times happened at night. Now I park in a different spot, one that puts me at more risk of door dings BUT, it directly under a lamp post so the yahoos can see inside and tell there isn't anything worth stealing.
