05-06-2009, 07:46 PM
hey sup guys,

havent really posted, but i try to read random posts here and there...
ive never really autoX, but me and my buddy have been wanting to try it out
for a while now...

so my question is,
how do i get started?
lets say if i joined u guys on the 23rd, do i just show up?
and pay watever the fee is?

Zefoxe
05-06-2009, 11:44 PM
yup, they teach u the course and give u driving tips and i believe they also take u for a lap in ur car

rocketyaris b3
05-07-2009, 07:24 PM
oh really?

i thought it would be more complicated than that...
ill call my buddy up see if he's down for the 23rd
and ill see if i can join u guys.

oh one more question...
is it 1st come 1st serve?
or do they accomidate everyone that gets there on time?

Zefoxe
05-07-2009, 11:20 PM
its usually not a jampacked crowd. everyone is accomidated. of course, more ppl = less track time though

Zefoxe
05-08-2009, 10:04 AM

Not ready for Auto X yet. probably won't be till next year in all honesty and if I'm going to Rockland the next day, I'm not gonna have enough in my budget to do Jersey then back to the island then to upstate NY the next day =(

I need a new job that gives me the awesome benefits I have now and pays a lot more =/

05-11-2009, 06:03 PM
they rent out helmets rite?
i just looked up prices on helmets and they are like 500 bucks.
cant afford that rite now.

id rather buy my shocks and struts
= )

alch3miss
05-11-2009, 06:44 PM
A couple of my boys ride bikes, so pretty much i'll borrow one of theirs. As long as its DOT approved shouldnt be a problem, and I think 500 is a little pricey.. I think carbon fiber ones go far that much, if you look you can definitely find one for less.

http://www.autox4u.com/nnjr.htmpre-register here to guarantee a spot. only 150 slots available.you pay when you get there. click on the link next to "may 23rd-points" that says "pre-registration" and create a user profile etc. and add yourself to the pre-reg list. just dont want anyone here to show up and not have a spot.

05-12-2009, 08:31 PM
i did the registration and im number 22. i see we have 6 people already with 2 VITZ and an ist as well as a camry? hope to have my new rims by then and was curious as to how the scion did with those 17's on and why didn't drifto finish in the point standings? BTW, zefoxe you almost won a trophy.....

Zefoxe
05-12-2009, 11:45 PM
I actually was placed for a trophy until the end of the 3rd heat :p

She needs a sway bar bad. Lots of body roll if u couldnt tell from the pics

Zefoxe
05-12-2009, 11:51 PM
kev had handicap equivalent to a miata because of previous results on other yaris' in scca records :P

ROCKLAND TOYOTA
05-13-2009, 09:43 AM
so his driving skills didn't rival the previous posted times?

Zefoxe
05-13-2009, 10:34 AM
Nope, he was being matched to yaris' with rigid chassis, r compounds, and the works i believe. if they had put him in the hs class he prolly would have had a better score

ROCKLAND TOYOTA
05-13-2009, 10:41 AM
so do they look at your mods and decide what class to put you in?

Zefoxe
05-13-2009, 10:42 AM
yup, u'll more then likely be in ST with us

ROCKLAND TOYOTA
05-13-2009, 10:49 AM
^ do suspension bars/ different tires/ etc bump you to different classes? cause you know im fully loaded in that dept.

Zefoxe
05-13-2009, 11:02 AM

25 st 2 Kevin Wasp 129.596 113.489+dnf 104.592 99.806 98.731

pax time = 80.762
handicap = 1.584

drifto
05-14-2009, 07:58 AM
lol now i know why my ears are ringing!

i basically put out a lame performance... i had fun but i was dissapointed in my technique. i was pushing too hard in the turns thus losing traction and valuable time, i have to be more smooth and balanced in the turns. i must redeem myself next time, simple as that. :frown:

i would also advise while in the meantime, practice tight turns using both hands on the wheel. handwork is vital with the FWD yaris, since most turns will require alot of steering wheel movement.

ROCKLAND TOYOTA
05-14-2009, 10:04 AM
^ good advice and i'll try that this weekend. how was the shifting? did you find the need to shift into second alot?

Zefoxe
05-14-2009, 10:27 AM
we never left 2nd gear :P no need for clutch either. guys in the corvettes said they never left 3rd, jerks >.<

Zefoxe

Yea, try to fight the habit of using the insides of the wheel. I found myself doing it a couple times  Also try to get a feel of how much oversteer/understeer you get within the full range of 2nd gear. I kept jerking my wheel cause the tires I put on give me mega oversteer and made it hard to judge the slaloms in the beginning couple of laps :P

drifto
05-14-2009, 11:24 AM
yeah and keep the tires at about 40psi to start. as they heat-up lower them if needed after a few runs (hot) untill they no longer raise in pressure. this will give you a good balance between precise steering feel and control (high psi) and better grip (low psi). also depends on tire quality and personal preference. im no expert, just stating what ive learned so far.

05-14-2009, 11:30 AM
^ good advice and i'll try that this weekend. how was the shifting? did you find the need to shift into second alot?

the instructor advised to stay in second around the turns, not to shift out but to adjust your braking start points and acceleration start points to improve cornering speed. brake pedal should be used as a toggle on off switch, and accelerator as a potentiometer gradual type switch. never punch the gas pedal, as it will create unecessary body movement and loss of traction, apply increasing steady acceleration.

Big talk coming from the guy who never shows up to anything anymore (j/k) ;P Bring the misses and the baby next time, Alex is always looking for someone to keep her company :P

Its tough with work now cause I have a boss who speaks english as a 3rd language and i've gone from a branch that had 5 other workers to change days with to a branch with 2 people. I should have next 2 events off though, i made it clear as day
