Yes. I hope they explore this option more!.... There is two things we have plenty off here in the US to help with Algae-- 1. Sunlight 2. Land (in the desert).
They're finding more and more efficient ways to get the algae into Oil. I really hope this is one of the major alternatives to the future and we can get off of the ethanol craze. We should never use food (corn) for fuel.

No, but it couldn't hurt. Trouble I see with it is finding enough land to "farm" the algae to the extent that it replaces petroleum.
Deserts tend to be fragile places, full of animals who are clinging to the edge of death.
That being said, algae sourced fuels make a lot more sense than corn. Turning grass clippings into ethanol makes more sense than corn.
