View Full Version : Do you think the 09 LB S is ugly?

I really dislike the front lip and the weird dent in the headlights by the hood. The car is round all over except the bizarre corners they put on the lip... It just doesn't look right to me. I'm glad I got an 08 non-S. (the body kit and few extras that came with the S version didn't seem worth the price) Any ways, I was just curious what you guys thought...

I am not a fan of that color, but I think the main problem I have with it in the US, is that it is just a cosmetic upgrade. For the extra coin it would be nice to get one of the larger engines that they put in the Yarii in other parts of the world. They don't do it here because they don't want it to stomp on the Scion sales . . . .

I'm a proud owner of the 09 lb S and what more can I say :) Things could be better
but that's what aftermarket parts are for.

Yea, it makes me mad about the scion sales thing. They still make money... (just not as much is suppose) To me a "sports" version has to have SOME sort of performance upgrade... other than that, it's just a pretender...

Point taken :) we need more aftermarket parts in the US.

I like how the creases on the hood of the '06-'08 continue down the bumper and warp around the lower grille (almost the way Audi does it). They should've kept that going along with the large fog light openings of the '09. I also agree a larger engine should've been standard, along with OEM alloys and TRD springs. MT should've also been an option. It would've cost a little less and been more fun to drive IMO

Having owned an 07, and now having an 09, i have t osa yi preferred the front on the 07. But.... I look at the 09 now and it really grows on you. My real beef is with the little "bumper strips" on the corners, and fugly inserts if you don't have the foglamps.
As for the "S" version? Stupid to not have a MT (hadn't realised that one wasn't available), especailly since the only difference is cosmetic and weight (the extra weight of the cosmetic parts) that make it SLOWER than the "non-sport" version. Duh!

I think the Yaris ceases to be a "good deal" when too many expensive and often useless options are added. It's bad enough that the S package is only cosmetic but even then according to Toyota's website it doesn't include standard powerwindows or locks or a 60/40 backseat or cruise control and just forget about a sunroof. The S doesn't deliver even for a fluff package.

No, I don't think it's ugly at all.
I wish they'd let us have the 1.8 L in the US. The scion *is* ugly to me, no offense.

the USDM front lip is fugly, yes.

This facelifted model is only just available here and I saw one in person a couple days back, to be honest I think it looks not too bad!

I voted "So-so."

I like the simple design of the Yaris, and this sort of goes against it.

I'm so-so on the '09s as well. What I liked about the '06-'08 styling was that it was different than anything else in the Toyota line-up. Now the front-ends of the Yaris, Corolla, and Matrix are all starting to look alike.

The 09 Yaris “S” looks more like a mini Matrix IMO, but I prefer the looks of the 07-08 Yaris “S” though.

I do like the looks of the 09 Yaris BASE Liftback compared to the 07-08 Liftback.

I have an 08 LB "S" in polar white.....like the look of the 08 better. But remember, the "S" package (at least in 08) is not just cosmetic exterior. The interior is different, not just by appearance, the front seats are shaped different and IMO are more comfortable, you also get a tach. I love my "S" and don't regret my purchase for a second! A little extra coin is worth the "fluff" in my opinion. Seeing that some paid around 14k for their non "S" liftback, it literally was just a little extra coin for me!

Did I read that right in an earlier post? Do they not offer an 09 LB "S" with a manual tranny? My 08 "S" is a manual.....

I Don't care too much for the bottom of the front bumper on the 09 but I'm glad it doesn't have the 08 back bumper. Overall, I like my 09.

Frownonfun - I wanted that color too.

My '09 "S" LB is a MT - don't know where that info came from. And the interior is a nice upgrade also - tach, leather-wrapped wheel and shift knob and different fabric.

Whether you like the exterior or not, the interior is a huge improvement over the base model (especially the seats). Most people seem to have a problem with the front bumper since it's way different; I like the look. It looks better to me in person than it does in pictures. But I think it's hard to argue that the sides, rear bumper, and spoiler of the new S aren't better than the previous version. I also have a manual; I don't know how the automatic only rumor started.

The S looks like an after thought, lets take a old style and modernize it! It does not work. It looks like part VW GTi and part snow plow, its too disjointed in its appearance. Over time it does look better, but I still prefer clean lines of the base or old style Yaris.

If you look at the second front view it makes me think that Pacman has eaten the lower portions of the bumper LOL.

The fog light shroud is meh. They should have kept the shrouds like the ones on the non-S. The lip looks weird too.

I'm not so hot on the new base either. The lights of course look funky and those weird bumps under the headlights are ugly. The opening under the T symbol looks ok, but the vents and fogs underneath look tacked on, like they wanted to make it look more like a matrix but the body of the yaris doesn't work with that design, so they mushed the face to make it fit...

I definitely agree that the '09 looks better... BTW, I was parked next to an 07 (I think) at the library the other day and was comparing them and noticed that the 07 had purple spots on the seats and door panels... was that the stock color? Yuck!

Yes, the pre-09 ones came with blue flecks of colour in the seats and door panels (hatchbacks only AFAIK)

The new 09s have silvery flecks now, right?

Im on the fence about which i like better... dont mind either. Adds some colour and interest to the interior i think.

I pre-ordered my 09 5dr last July, before the brochures came out. I ordered the S, as I really liked the 07 and 08 S. When someone posted some brochure pictures here last August, I quickly called my sales person and told him to switch me to a non-S...

I guess you could call it silver. Whatever it is, it's much more subtle than the older color, which I absolutely couldn't stand.
