Chino Charles is acting like Judge Jury and Executioner. Only thing that annoys me more than a Censor is a Censor who is so insecure that he has to "demand" respect rather than acting like an adult and earning respect.

we just finished discussing this , what is it that compels you to keep taunting and stirring up trouble. i think it was fair no one either democrat or republican or conservative or liberal or communist or separatist would post political threads on A CAR FORUM. simple rule isn't it? why complicate things?
exactly.
there will always be people that dislike MODS....
just stick to the car stuff and take the shit-stirring topics elsewhere.
come guys its almost summer! start modifying threads not silly ones like these ones!

Why don't you turn your ire onto this guy?
made an off-color comment in his thread about Texas seceeding from the union. My comment was meant to highlight the fact that I think racism is at the root of some of this anti-Obama rhetoric coming from the Republican base, but I can see how it may have been taken as me being racist myself. Now, don't argue the fact... it is just my opinion, and it certainly may not be true, but my opinion plays into the situation.
Did he apologize for the remark? No. "cracker" is a pretty strong term. It's akin to another term use of which would get me banned here.
Did he delete the offending post? No.
Did he "demand respect"? Yes.
I PM'd you about this, PK. This is the kind of "under the radar" non-sense that I've been seeing for the last week. Nothing like slipping in a little editorial remark about the "disloyal" opposition, and then clamping down on the responses. It's baiting.
Charles didn't need to express his opinion - again - that he thinks that some of the GOP are "racists", and then say, "...but in spite of my opinion, and the ire that it could cause, the fact that I did not apologize for using a racial epithet (as a moderator no less!) and want to re-emphasize my opinion here and that I've been fairly quoted by someone (and I want him to quit doing it) that "I deserve respect as a moderator".
Do you think that this is appropriate behavior for a moderator? I don't. Moderators are supposed to calm things down, not bait people and then stifle them.

I mentioned to another member yesterday that I had hoped that GeneW's self-imposed Lent exile would help him to calm down and get his head on straight but that it didn't appear that was the case. I also mentioned the he was a post or two away from my ignore list.
He was placed on my ignore list this afternoon so I don't see his first post in this thread, but judging by everyone's reaction I know I'm not missing anything worthwhile.
It's a shame, really. Many people appreciate his intelligence but one has to get past his attitude first.

I generally stay out of the BS on most forums that I'm on, and this one is no exception. But, with this thread and one about "why I banned somebody (http://yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16522)" showing up this evening... I had to check it out.
Not that I think my opinion counts for much, but... I sort of agree with Gene's sentiment here. Charles, you're being a little whiny, and abusing your power. If you don't want your public statements quoted in someone's sig, you'd do better to just think before you post. I don't think you were in any way justified to ban someone over this. Way over the top.

 I Think we are all missing the point here , we all choose to post here , and the MOD's have the
final say , on if it can or cannot be said on here , there where no threats made , by eathier party just baiting of each other.(RIGHT OR WRONG)
and if you bait a hook , you should expect a bite, good or bad .
Moral off this DON"T BAIT a MODERATOR they bite BIG TIME
now lets all play nicely for another day.

Ok, this is exactly the abuse that a lack of checks and balances causes within the system. My question is, Was any other moderator brought into the issue besides Charles? How about Thomas/Kimona or Echo????
Hmm, seems kinda dictatorship-like to sit here and choose the fate of a single member because you didnt like their actions. Seems kinda familiar to something that a leader doesnt like a citizen down talking them, so he goes ahead and has them arrested, charged, or even killed.
I understand a respect thing, I really do...but its a freakin forum people. I mean of course we all need to go ahead and watch our opinions, regardless of it being of racial tendencies or not. People take offense easily these days, sometimes more-so than others.
I think personally this thread should be locked by another moderator OTHER than Chino Charles.
Topics like these end up driving away more good members than they bring people to our forum.
MY OPINION: Take offense if you want. But the abuse of power of a Moderator of a public forum needs to be taken into investigation by the fellow forum moderators to determine if the moderator in question is no longer suitable for the job. I am by no means saying that Chino is not fit to be a moderator... BUT by a standard of checks and balances that are setup across the board in many goverment bodies and even just simple structured institutions (this forum included) there needs to be some kind of action to resolve this matter.
Oh, and if my answer to this thread somehow ends up deleted or edited by someone other than myself, I will make sure the origional version is reposted (I for one, hate to be censored, especially when I believe I am correct in the topic in which I have contributed.)

aaah the joys of being a moderator, dealing with peoples' VERY varying opinions and beliefs... BTW I should mention I purposely blocked myself from YW at the office, I don't need to deal with this kinda stuff when I have work to do. So it makes me really sad to come back home at night and see these shenanigans still happening...
I will stand by my fellow moderators though, yes, we might get a bit of a power-trip sometimes, but it's all in the interest of preserving the peace. I am a big proponent of freedom of speech, but it has its drawbacks, just read my sig... I really hate having to delete someones' comments, I know your opinions are important to you, but sometimes, the only outcome is fights starting...
Anyway, there is no easy solution to this problem. Asking everyone to be totally tolerant and supportive of each others ideas is just impossible. Outright censoring any political discussion would be ideal, but after some deeper thought, that would be just ignoring the problem, as this thread demonstrates.
So here is what I propose: a lightly-moderated, open political discussion thread, where we all can moan and bitch and share our views and deal with the flames ourselves. Any and all new thread started on a political topic will be merged into that one. And, most importantly, any antagonistic behavior (that is, flaming each other) outside of that thread, will be dealt with harshly. It is the fairest solution I can think of and I hope everyone's OK with it.

Very true, this goes for Everyone! public forum, does mean PUBLIC forum.
The thing you're leaving out, and it's an important point here, is that this forum is NOT public. Sure, anyone can join, but it is OWNED by Bueller as I understand it. The mods are really just helping him out. They can ban people, the can suspend people, and that is the way this game is played. I'll mis-quote Chino again for you "If you don't like it, don't click on it!"

:clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:
This is our opportunity to prove we can have adult discussions on here without sinking to childish personal attacks if we disagree on a topic or issue.
That is not hard to do, just post supporting evidence to your side of the argument, and understand that not everybody may feel the same way. Use rhetoric and don't insult people, and use logic and not emotion to state your case.
This will be a test for the membership on this forum, but one I believe we will pass with flying colors. However, I do think the 'top cover' of the mods will help facilitate that immensely...
Cheers! M2
