Ok, what's with the horn been so sensative. Mine is not the only one, someone else I know that picked up a little yaris hb said the same thing without me saying anything.
Anyone know of a way to desensatize the horn?
I keep getting dirty looks in traffic or parking lots from people thinking I am hurrying them along when it was just that I barely touched the thing and it went off :(
To be honest that is the only problem/bitch I have had with it, everything else about the car is great.
horn sounds so wimpy and annoying too...

Change your steering wheel to one with just a small round horn button in the center  I just got one, I'll post pics once it's installed

that's funny, i hadn't noticed sensitivity until this morning.
i was stopped at a set of lights, going to make a right hand turn and there was a cyclist ahead of me at the curb, i was just turning the wheel and the horn honked, he looked at me like i was a complete ass.
i just yelled out the window, "sorry, unintentional horn honk!"

I don't have problems with accidently honking. You people must be total spazmos or something.
You don't have to live with a wimpy horn though http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1603&page=2
With those babies, if someone gives you a look - you just honk it again and yell "are you looking at me?".

i thought i was the only 1? glad it's just not me, i've had my share of akward moments while driving, like this 1 time last week i accidently honked while behind some one during a red light, guy looks over at me through rear view mirror and u can read his lips as if he's say "come on?" either that or "f--- off"?

this is the first time i have deployed the horn accidentally, i thought these other posters were total spazmos as well.
the wimpy horn is also fine with me, i would prefer to co-exist in a non-confrontational manner with my fellow motorists,
afterall, the yaris isn't going to be instilling fear in many people.

Napa sells a "Freeway Blaster Horn" at 130db for $16.00. Looks like a bargain!

I want to get one of those horns like on a big huge cruise ship.:headbang:
I've accidentally hit the horn, twice . I only had the car for a few wks at the time, and hadn't really paid attention to the design of the horn. After taking a closer look at the horn switch (and making the appropriate adjustment in habit), it hasn't happened again.
I've actually grown to like the horn switch design. I think the problem for me initially, was that (a) I didn't realize how much surface area the switch covers, and (b) how deeply it extends into the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock spoke positions.
In particular, I like the option to keep both grips on the wheel, and only move one hand slightly to have one thumb over the switch edge. Very handy when approaching a potentially dangerous situation (e.g. kids at a school trying to cross w/o realizing your approach). Of course, in a panic, the center punch is always there.
As a footnote, I might be a wimp, but I like the Yaris' stock horn "beep". Kinda fits the car, IMHO. Even though it's loud (well, compared to an old Cavalier at least), it's more polite-sounding than the typical American car "honk" (which is, from the link, what the Belta upgraded horn emulates).

I was about to ask this same question, but saw it was already covered with a search.
So Am I the only one "currently" honking at everyone and everything with this sensitive horn? I wanna change my steering wheel already.

when i back into my space here at my apartments garage, i one hand the wheel going from lock to lock. first couple of times i did that i couldn't figure out why the car was going beep, beep, beep, beep.
it was the edge of my hand brushing the horn, far too sensitive. funny though, the first time i did that some older business ype guy with his mercedes was staring at me while the car was going off.

My Yaris horn must be uncaring, sleeping, dull and unresponsive as it has shown no unusual sensitivity !

It really is too sensitive. Keep a pen in my car because every so often I have to write (without pressing at all) directions on a piece of paper. Lemme just say using the steering wheel as the writing surface is not a good idea with a Yaris horn...
All other times I don't use the horn when I should because it sounds like the Roadrunner getting angry. Prefer to roll down the window and cuss-out bad drivers instead because it's much more fun...

I'm glad I'm not the only one with this issue. I used to hit the horn by accident all the time when I first got the car.
On a related note, I've noticed that I get honked at by other drivers a LOT more when I'm in the Yaris compared to my mid-sized sedan or SUV. I think people see the Yaris, and automatically assume they can bully the person in the small little car.
 Haven't posted here in a long while, so it was funny to see that I was the last one to comment on this thread's first go around 3 years ago (post #16)...
At any rate, my thoughts re: the horn haven't changed - I could have written that same blurb today. I've had my Yaris now for 3 years and 3 months. I don't find the sensitivity and deep spoke extension a problem, but rather a safety plus.
So I will go against the apparent tide, and remain standing on record as  on the Yaris' horn.
Perhaps steering style is partly at work here. I use hand-over-hand, and haven't seen fit for anything else.
Consider an opposite approach: I had to drive a 2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser rental for work. The PT had a small recessed center mount horn switch that was unbelievably stiff. You had to lay on it to activate the horn; it was impossible to make any kind of a light "drum tap" on it. A minimum 1/2 sec honk blast or nothing.
Needless to say, I found the PT's horn switch design puzzling, and moreover, somewhat of safety risk. I hope all Chryslers aren't like this.
On occasion, I will make use of the feather touch double tap "beep-beep" that's so easy to do on the Yaris. There are situations where doing this is a preemptive safety maneovre (I can't get into why here, I would imagine standard driver training courses cover this). Who cares if ppl stare - it works, and as I smile and wave going by, thanks can go all around that I didn't run them over.

Everybody, no matter what your opinions are, honk if you still love your Yaris:thumbsup:
..Or just look at it. It'll probably honk itself...

I've never had a problem in my sedan. I sit back far from the wheel. Are you people crowded in close to the wheel (Nascar style) thus striking the center hub accidentally?

no, but i am kinda short (4'10) so my seat needs to be a little close, although i keep the seat back leaned quite a bit back.. i dont have the issue frequently, but on occasion i have done it.. even after 2.5 yrs of ownership....
