I cant believe it, my 3rd xbox 360 is dead and this time out of warranty.
I'm torn on the fact of replacing it again and wonder if I am better off moving to a PS3...at least I get a blueray player out of it. So those that have PS3 any reliability issues ?
-1st 360 dead due to red ring: lasted 6 months
-2nd 360 dead to red ring: lasted 9 months
-3rd 360 dead to GPU failure: lasted 2 years

I own both 360 and ps3. I am on my third 360. I still have my original ps3. I would go ps3!!!!!! I use my ps3 a lot more than my 360. The only time I use my 360 is for exclusive games like gears of war and halo. However, ps3 also has exclusive games(resistance, MGS, unchartered, killzone......) And don't forget god of war 3 is coming out soon. My ps3 is a lot more reliable and it is not as loud.

your 360 should be still under the new 3 year warranty from the last RROD. once it comes back from being repaired just sell it and get a PS3....

My 3rd 360 is dead too. I'm too lazy to look up my serial number to dig it out of the stack of dead 360s at my buddy's house.

Almost the exact thing just happened to me. Enjoyed some of the X360 exclusive games, but said no more...3rd time was the charm. Went with PS3 and very glad that I did.

This is an eye-opener. I was planning on getting a 360 this Summer. Thanks for the heads-up
PS3 with GT5 Full (whenever that comes out) FTW

I haven't had any problems with my 360 (yet), but I'm probably going to get a PS3 for the blu-ray alone

I could never turn my back on Halo.

Well I got back from the store and decided it was time for something new..so PS3 it is !
I just couldn't pass up getting a blue ray player ability for the HDTV. Also it was a good deal on the PS3 as it came with 4 games and the 160GB version.

I may be able to fix your GPU issues, its a heat and heatsink imbalance issue where the GPU floats on solderballs and when it heats too much (i/e overheats) it will melt the solderballs and fuse them together creating a short.

the more recently manufactured consoles should have a lot less problems, right? We've got 2 dead ones here (and no warranty ) that we got when they first came out, as well as a more recent one (the olive drab Halo 3 bundle one, with HDMI), which has been running like a champ.
As for the PS3, we also have one, which has had zero problems.
Yet, overall, I prefer the 360.... Sony should really have tried to upgrade their controllers, they were revolutionary when the PS1 came out, now they're just clunky and uncomfortable compared to the 360's, not to mention their battery life SUCKS and the buttons don't withstand a lot of bashing before losing sensitivity
But in the end it's down to the games, I guess, each platform has their outstanding ones... Gears of War, Forza 2 on the 360, MGS4, GT5 someday on the PS3... And yes, the PS3 doubles as a Blu-ray player which is a plus...
So, really... get both  but my personal preference is the 360

Yes I got it, came with the system though I havent had a chance to play it yet.
Also included was GT5, Little big plannet, and pain.
Just got the media server settings going. It's nice to have access to my PC files again on the big screen

Hearing about all these bad 360's reminds me of all the times I always see someone buying one in bestbuy and the cashier is going over a list of things that could go wrong with it and what to do, when it does, sounds like a PITA to me. But glad to know 360's do have so many issues, I was thinking about buying one over the PS3.

There's a great place to get a 360 with the red ring repaired (and they actually upgrade it too). I'll have to find that link - ours has never given a second problem.

My X360 controllers had to be recharged about twice as often as the PS3. X360 consoles always froze gameplay, from time they were brand new to the day each one died. I just got used to it over the years because I thought it was just normal, until I bought the PS3. Got 2 free movies and 2 free games of my choice when I bought the PS3.
