CG Lock = next best thing to a harness

I've had harnesses in a few of my past cars, and I was sad to see that the Yaris doesn't yet have a good harness bar to safely mount a set with. The flat OEM seats and body roll were making cornering tiring having to brace myself all the time :D

A while back I read about the CG Lock (http://www.cg-lock.com/index.html), which is basically a little clamp that attaches to any OEM lap belt and "locks" it onto you. I picked one up today from Bavarian Autosport in NH (49.99) and have been using it all day. I must say, I'm very impressed.

The install takes a minute or two at most, and it works exactly as advertised. You sit down, buckle up, then cinch the waist belt tight. Before you know it you're pretty well locked into your seat and no longer have to brace as much around turns. With your core locked down I found that I didn't really miss having my chest locked in like a traditional harness (though that has other advantages). And when you're done with it you pull the little lever and it releases. You can also remove it quickly too (though I may just leave it on, it's nice driving with it). It's also SCCA legal I believe.

In all, :thumbup: for the CG Lock, it's awesome!

Yeah, I'll try and grab one tomorrow. To be perfectly honest, you won't get much more from a pic taken by my than you will from going to their site. They have a lot of good pics and videos there.

seems cool, but kinda expensive... seems like a $25-$30 part to me (altho from the pictures/video it's a bit hard to judge its workmanship/materials)

$49 is not a lot for what it does. It's a very well made piece, the company backs it 100% and it has been pretty rigorously tested by them and many, many users.

Yep. This is exactly what I need. I didn't want a whole harness, but I needed to be tightened into the seat better. I be getting one of these this week.

Word. I had one of these on the yaris. Get yourself a $300+ harness and spend another $300+ on a bar, or get this. It's not quite the same as a 4-5 point harness, but it's better than the OE seatbelt.
Go to their website. On a side note, it also works well for seniors who need to be secured on a visit to the doctor, hospital, etc.

hmmmm just an idea, would it not be possible to use a second one of those to hold the shoulder belt tight too?

why spend money all I do is put the seat all the way back move the belt fast so it locks and put the seat foward again till it is tight it has held me in for two years with no problems

1.) That's ghetto
2.) That probably takes longer to do than it does to adjust the CG-Lock.

even if you fasten it to your rear seat bar it's still safer and more secure than a CG lock.

More secure, sure. I seriously doubt it's safer. I don't think the OEM seats could handle the downward load that the harnesses would put on the seat-back in a crash. The angle from the back of the seat to the rear seating anchor points is too steep. That's why a harness bar is the so important.

Let's not turn this into a "my solution is better than yours" flame war. I simply posted a small review of a product I feel some people will find helpful. Harnesses are excellent when safely installed, and the CG Lock works very well considering how easy it is to install and how cheap it is. Let's leave it at that. :thumbsup:
