I know this is really subjective and depends on a lot of factors but does anyone have comparison as to when they fill up with their Yaris vs their old car? I want to get a general idea of overall savings.

I work 5 days/week, drive about 20km/day. And on weekends I go out. I fill up about once/week when I had my old Prelude. $45-$50 for full tank.

I don't have my Yaris yet, but will find out how good it is on gas. I would be really happy if I fill up once every 2 weeks under my same conditions. But am I dreaming?

When the gas guage on the dash is on the last bar, it's about 10gl to fill up.
Driving around town I get an average of 33mpg. Driving on the freeway only, I averaged 41mpg.

Here in San Diego it's about $35 for me to fill up with regular gas.

my honda element got 21-23 mpg and had a 16 gallon tank. i would start looking for a gas station, and would be 2/3 guage gone at 200 miles. this is my first tank on the yaris, i've only got 2 bars gone at 170 miles! i'm sure they'll start going faster, but i'm so excited to save that much in gas!

I went from $60 to $65 a week in my Jeep to $56 to $66 a month in my Yaris :)

That sounds like a huge savings! about how many km/miles you drive a week?

BTW, I'm picking up a Silver Mica Yaris this weekend as well!

I buy most of my fuel in the US

My S-10 had a 20 gallon tank and was costing me about $50-$55 US to fill the tank and that lasted 1 week. I filled up almost every weekend.

With my Yaris it has an 11 gallon tank and I fill up every two weeks and it costs $25-$30

S-10 = $200-$225 a month
Yaris = $50-$60 a month
We drive the car about 250-300km a week

I filled up on the 28th of last month (so ~10 days now) for $30 exactly and I still have 3 bars left. Driven something like 350 miles but I haven't checked since before I left work yesterday where it was around 330. I'll probably need to fill up again on Monday unless I drive anywhere far but it's not looking that way. Just over 1200 miles total on my car now.

You'll probably end up filling up once a month if that's all you drive....

your S-10 was really only getting 25% of the fuel efficiency compared to the yaris? yikes!! so it got like 10mpg?
are you driving less?

my saab got (maybe) 23mpg... but i had to put in premium. this is the cost equivalent of 21mpg. The yaris is getting 41mpg.
If my total monthly miles stay the same, my gas bill will be approximately in half :)

The wife drove it to work in the morning, home for lunch, back to work an hour later and then home every day. ALL short driving always on a COLD engine so it never really even had time to warm up properly.
In town I got about 16-18mpg and about 22-24mpg Highway.

She does the same thing with the yaris everyday and we drive the YARIS more then the truck.
One of the biggest differences is we don't let the Yaris warm up as long.
with the truck we let it warm up 2-3 minutes other wise it would not shift out of second and the end of our street is a busy road so we need to be up to 60-80kph. With the yaris we let it warm up 30 seconds or so and drive off. It still holds 4th gear until warm but it's a LOT better then the truck.

I work 3 days a week about 23 miles, 46 round trip. The other 4 days, I spend taking kids to preschool and/or babysitter and running various errands.. groceries, parts store, food, etc. I end up driving on average about 300 miles a week.

The car I was driving 1990 Cadillac DeVille, had an 18 gallon tank and required premium unleaded, and I was filling it up approximately 1.8 times a week. SO at $54 a fillup x 7.2 = $388.8 a month in gas.

With the Yaris, I drive the same exact amount.. maybe a little more cause it's fun to drive. 11 gallons x $2.45 = $26.95 and I fill up about every 10 days so that's about $80.85/mo

The Difference, $307.95.. why by-golly, that's enough to make the car payment and some left over! So for less money than I spent on gas in the caddy I can make a new car payment and buy the gas for it.. not to mention have a more fun and reliable car to drive.

i drive approx 65-70 kilometres per day, and each fill up usually costs between $40.00 -45.00 depending on the price of gas. sometimes i can go close to two weeks on a single tank of gas. i use high grade gasoline in my yaris, and i know that the common consensus is that this is unnecessary, however i've had this car for eight months and it seems that a tank of supreme goes further than a tank of regular. i could be my imagination, but i won't be convinced otherwise.

This is unscientific, but I fill up my tank when the gauge has two bars left, and I am usually at 450km at that point.

My average fill up consists of 30-35 litres, and costs about $35 dollars.

After driving my yaris for 1 month I kept a log of my fill ups. I fill up on average every 10 days, and usually a full tank would last me 460km. Mind you, I fill up when it blinks on the last bar. I think when it is blinking on the last bar, I have about 7L left in the tank. That should be equivalent to about 80 more KM's if I run it dry. So I say a full tank would last me about 540kms. Not bad. A fill up for me is about $35CAD, when gas is around 95c/litre.

My last fill up lasted me 12 days before refilling. Depends how much I drive. Compared to my old 88 prelude, where I would fill up every week for sure. Now I spend around $80 on gas a month. I use to spend up to $200 before!

I love my yaris!

I've tried to run it dry once, and I was able to squeeze 613km.

The most I've ever gotten out of it is about 592km... Never been able to break that magic 600km mark.. although my brother once got 676km on one tank down to the flashing "last bar". He drives a lot better than me... as in to improve fuel economy instead of gunning it all the time.

I usually fill up after the last fuel gauge has started to flash or has flashed for a little while. When I actually go to the gas station, the trip meter usually shows somewhere between 560 to 630 km.

there... my first fill up....585km with 38.781L
that means 6.6L/100km for a very first tank.. and that's alot of city driving.. say 80%

DeVille
On your EPA rated 19mpg combined Deville you were getting: 1.8 fill ups*18 gallons= 32.4 gallons per week-----300 miles /32 gallons=9.4 mpg

Yaris
On your EPA rated Yaris 36MPG combined you are getting for 10 days between fill ups at 300 miles a week that is 1.43 weeks so 1.43 wk*300 miles per week= 429 miles per tank. 428miles/11gallons= 39 mpg

So you are suggesting you went from 10 mpg under EPA ratings to 3 mpg over EPA ratings? maybe you should have put some tires on your Deville:coolpics:

yeah about 470km per tank here as well. i generally fill up with two bars remaining or as soon as it starts to flash. 35 bucks to fill her up here in halifax every 10 days or so. with my old car, a 99 chrysler cirrus, i was paying 55 - 60 bucks for 380 km every 7 days. we drove to maine this summer and didn't have to fill the car until we hit the border. approx 680 km from my place. :)

Well, my other cars were a Merc 6.3 which guzzles alot of gas and uses premium and the cost of maintenance is quite alot more that the Yaris.
I also had a 300TE wagon which used up about $70.00 in fuel a week. Compared to the Yaris at $30. My 300 D diesel of course was the best for fuel at $25 in gas a week for the same distances traveled.

But the Yaris is fun to drive and that's what the drive is all about for me.
