It depends on how you take on or take off your wheels. If you use an impact wrench, its more a chance for damage. I havnt had any problems with mine, wheels have been removed at least 4-5 times now. Only 1 time with an impact.

no impact wrench been used since i put the rims on on Saturday, thats what buggin me i bought the lugs nuts on sat took off today to paint calipers and one aready chiped

I'm not joking. I had a similar set seize on the wheel/studs, and ended up needing an air-hammer to remove them, as of course, the sides were all worn out (just from torquing at 70ft/lbs!) Of course, I chewed up the rim (which were long out of existence by then) using the air impact tool. Cost me four new alloys, all because I scrimped and used cheap Ebay (similar) lug nuts.

Buy a good set, they'll pay for themselves in no time!

Always hand tighten lug nuts (aftermarket or not). Air tools + lug nuts = lose (even if you have the correct torque stick). It only takes a couple extra minutes...

Seconded. I own an impact, and NEVER use it to install lug nuts, plated or not! Torque wrench only.

I learned my lesson when a tire shop stretched every wheel stud on my old car. True, the studs weren't the standard size ("normal"), but it was an unnecessary waste of time and money to replace them all.

i stop using impact gun the day i work on my Fairmont and per my Neighbor who is a mechanic put my wheels back when for a drive and felt the steering wheel stitch , when igot to my friends house i asked him what it could be he noticed one of the lugs was loose i was like :eek: :eyebulge: never used an impact on my car again just dont trust them. now even if the tire shop uses an impact on any car im driving i still check them out with the tire iron, more then once noticed a couple of them loose...

I won't use an impact either. In fact, every time I've gotten a flat I've taken the wheel off and taken it to the service station either in another car or put the spare on the Yaris, just to avoid the over torquing that the monkeys in the tire change shop are likely to inflict on my lugs. I'll trust them for a mount and a balance but that's about it.
