View Full Version : The ugliest Yaris part. Can we do something aout it .. ?

I think this is the ugliest thing on this car and I would gladly get rid of it. Living in Romania makes it impossible for me to make, ask, imagine something and then having it done. There are no shops here that can deal with tuning, in the sense of making something from scratch.

Please ... does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

you could always just remove it and put a sticker over it :)

or if the hole is round you could get a plug for it.

Couple members have tried to color match it to the paint on the car, not many have been able to get it reinstalled and perfect. Good luck.

Yeah it would look a lot better without:

To do it right though, you'd need a bodyshop to fill in the hole, smooth it, and repaint... I'm sure you can find some place that deals in repairing crashed cars?

The next part would be to make the latch actually work, you might actually want to open your hatch sometimes! But you can get some actuator kits to handle that, should not be a big deal to install...

or, you could just do this:

much easier and still would look pretty good!

paint it and you'll hardly notuce it after that. LOL at the sticker idea:laugh: it could say insert screwdriver here to open.....

If the car had remote, you could just have the thing removed and the hole filled. It clearly looks better without (see above). Actually, I don't see anything really unsightly about it... certainly nothing to obsess about.

If you have a Alarm system like Viper or Clifford or something, You could wire yourself a actuator release on the trunk and get rid of the hole with bondo. Bondo, Shave and paint. Install actuator release. Program alarm system. Bam! good as go.

That is the problem, I only have the car's remote and I don't want to buy more alarm systems, I already have an alarm. I guess there is no "cheap" way to get rid of that.

Just love this clean look.

Do the hatchback's have a trunk release inside the driver's side door or no?

wouldn't be very hard to run a cable back there up to the front somewhere, then delete the exterior handle.

Or buy a black hatchback and you hardly notice it/it already color-matches the car!

i really don't see this as the ugliest part of the yaris. looks like a button to open the hatch to me. might as well get rid of those pesky door handles while your at it.

I really wish one of the bigger brains on this forum would do a DIY on this. I love my Yaris, I really do, but I would love it even more if it had a remote hatch release somewhere in the cockpit...and a way to lock it from the hatch that doesn't require using the key.

And I would need a mechanical solution, as I don't have power locks.

another problem, even if you could unlatch it from somewhere else, it's gonna be hard to actually get a grip on the hatch itself in order to lift it up! Couple solutions though, you could somehow fit a spring to push the hatch back far enough so you can get your fingers under the bottom edge, or use a door popper which I believe is more or less a small electrically-actuated piston that will push the door out a bit...

Or get the electric trunk life damper thingie from a luxury sedan or van and retrofit that so it opens and closes the hatch all the way by itself

^ Simpler than all that. Just use a stronger lift, it will open itself.

when I switched to a carbon fiber hatch, it would open itself with the stock lifts -- same concept.
