Okay I have a odd question pertaining to the new tires that my GF just got on her Ford(She wants a yaris), She got her tires at Pepboys, and they wouldnt change the front tires, cause they said, "brand new front tires are prone to hydroplane'. I have no expertise when it comes to new tires or replacing old ones(but I know we have a lot of experts here), but this just did not sound right to me when she told me this. I'm curios how an almost bald tire could possibly be better then a brand new one? Has anyone ever heard of this before?:iono:
If this has already been ask, please direct me to it.

I hope she didn't go there by herself, mechanics always try to prey on women. They think women don't know any better, so they put full trust into these idiots. Had you gone with her i'm pretty sure just having the presence of a man there would have changed everything

Agreed, I never take my yaris to auto places, not even dealerships now, especially with all the dumb things they did when I took it in for the recall. Hence why I'm buying my next set of tires online, and trying to find a good place to mount/balance them.

Read the post again. It is stating the PepBoys refused to put new tires on the front. They are not looking for unnecessary sales$
Get them to put the back tires on, go home, rotate them, then get them to put the back tires on.

Sounds to me like they only had two of the tires she wanted in stock and rather than turn her away gave her some BS story about why they can't put the fronts on.

It doesn't make since to me. Usually all tires are replaced at one time. My only explanation is that they only had 2 tires of that size. Try calling the district manager to complain. Maybe he will give you a discount.

Either way you want the newer tires in the front. So go rotate them now. As far as hydroplaning....yeah new tires can hydroplane, if you overfill them with air.

^^ That's how you hydroplane. You want 4 new tires. If you have 2 tires that are unsafe, they will be unsafe anywhere you put them.
