just read in paper that NYPD recently incorporated a fleet of Nissan Altimas Hybrids for marked and unmarked designations.

They are also reportedly looking for a smaller hybrid vehicle and are considering the Honda Insight or the up and coming Yaris Hybrid. CHOOSE THE YARIS!

Looks like the times are changing. Agencies big like the NYPD are trying to save gas money from guzzlers like the Crown Vics, Impalas, and Chargers. With the Crown Vics already phased out, and the Charger having replaced the Impala in current production - the Nissan Altima Hybrid is becoming the new choice of up and coming police cruisers. (should have picked the Camry!)

Currently, the NYPD traffic division has about 1/4 of their fleet using the Toyota Prius. Currently, they are using mostly the older Impalas, and Luminas - and is projected to be phased out soon.
