I work at home, and have four monitors going at all times, but this is the one that I spend the most time in as it's the main screen on my MBP and I much prefer leaving my work machine (Vista Business) to run outlook and application instances.

The photo was a long-exposure shot I took of my office clock a while back. This is on my Macbook Pro 17" running Leopard 10.5.6. I'm the process of putting together an icon pack that uses four letters for every program, but obviously I haven't gotten to some of them (evidenced by my dock :frown:).

Perhaps in a bit I'll grab the other three screens, and maybe one off of my wife's Powerbook 12".

Tell me about it. All of my houses machines at OSX or Linux, with the exception of my work machine which runs Vista, and then I spend about half of my day in SSH sessions to a variety of servers with everything from Linux (Red Hat, CentOS, etc) to Unix (FreeBSD, usually) and Solaris.

Sometimes I love working for a startup, but then sometimes I type ifconfig in a DOS term and get mad that it doesn't work like it does everywhere else ;)

I've been running it in Parallels for a while now with 1 processor and 1G of RAM assigned to it, and it's been pretty stable for me, I may actually be putting it on my Boot Camp partition when rc2 comes out (July, I think, is the target date for that).

and for the minimum system requirements (I think someone asked):

* 1 GHz processor (32- or 64-bit)
* 1 GB of RAM (32-bit); 2 GB of RAM (64-bit)
* 16 GB of available disk space (32-bit); 20 GB of avaiable disk space (64-bit)
* DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

And lastly, if you wanted to upgrade directly from WinXP to Win7, you're SOL :thumbdown:

My desktops are usually bicycle related. I don't have anything fancy right now though, just a tiled texture pattern.

Jailbreak the phone and stick the OpenSSH server on there, then rsync the /private partition to the desktop. :smile: Also put the dTunes audio player and MPlayer media player port on there as you cannot build iTunes playlists outside of iTunes software right now (with the 2.1 iPhone firmware came a new iTunes database hash that hasn't been reverse engineered yet).

and load balancers? work for server support somewhere?? ^_^
I'm the IT Manager for a Linux-centric SMB that writes wireless applications for cellular phones. I'm currently a one man shop so I handle the servers, networks, desktops, phone system, security, power, HVAC, asset managment and, yes, load balancers. The document on my desktop that you referenced was recently generated when I had to update and completely reconfigure all of our load balancers to take advantage of some new regular expression handling. I am glad that's over. :wink:

ahh well Ubuntu is a free open source Linux-based operating system. You can check it out here (http://www.ubuntu.com/) if you'd like. You can download it and burn it to a CD or request a free CD from the site. You can try it by booting from the CD without even changing your current operating system. It's a great free alternative to Windows. :thumbup:

I refuse to be a slave to Microsoft by upgrading the OS, therefore I'm sticking with Win95!
Take that Bill Gates! You'll never get my money!

people still pay for OS's?

ahh well Ubuntu is a free open source Linux-based operating system. You can check it out here (http://www.ubuntu.com/) if you'd like. You can download it and burn it to a CD or request a free CD from the site. You can try it by booting from the CD without even changing your current operating system. It's a great free alternative to Windows. :thumbup:

That is AWESOME. I love Vista (from what it seems, me and 5 others actually like it lol) but if there is something better, I am all about it. I am checking that out now :) Thanks!

Sorry for the OT chat to everyone else ...

My humble suggestion is that you do not show your desktop if it shows an array of short cuts. This would allow any nefarious characters who may be lurking about to be able to see what software you are running, which could have exploitable vulnerabilites and potentially be hacked.

not my fault if you have a shitty firewall and don't know how to protect your computer

Is that Linux. I know you have windows icon but it looks like KDE Oh and compiz fusion only works on most laptops pre-9.04/Jaunty. I know cause it doesn't work on mine after upgrade :(

Ubuntu Jaunty with Code Geass Wall, and Conky.

Who said anything about my computer, black yaris? Even the best firewalls can be bipassed by a skilled hacker with superior knowledge. Are you a skilled hacker with superior knowledge, black yaris??

With a good firewall and some common sense most home PCs are safe from the "hacker" script kiddies who just want to damage your PC. Any other hackers smart enough to bypass that, most likely aren't interested in a random strangers home PC. Of course if an intelligent hacker has motivation, and enough resources, no computer is safe...

I got a bit bored of my hackintosh box. As much as i like it osx was a bit sluggish on this low powered amd 1.6GHZ... I do have 4GB of ram though... so i decided to put linux back on this box.

Its been awhile since i played around with virutal enviroments and i must stay its come a long way. With linux there isn't an easy way to update your iphone... without jumping through loops to do it. So i was curious to see if i could sync my iphone via a virutal enviroment. and its sucessful! i can sync/update no problem in both my osx and xp VMs. OSX does run a bit slow on this computer but then again it was a 199$ futureshop special back last christmas so i can't complain too much. If i want to do some actual gaming to big number crunching i use my Dell XPS laptop :)

Here are a couple of screenshots for fun:
