Loud scratching noise

!!! Light turned green and I started to go. suddenly when i was half way through the intersection, i heard a loud crack! I pulled over immediately but didnt see any damage. Couldnt figure out what it was. My mom was in the passenger side and she didnt see anything on the road so its not like i ran over a pop can.. Later on, i found out that when i lift up the handbrake around an inch high, it makes a really loud scratching noise from under the car.. anybody know what it mite be??

I admit when my car was almost brand new, I once drove with the handbrake on, inadvertently. Sorry, apart from that I had to really step on the gas pedal to get the car going, I noticed nothing like what you described above. Moreover, once I noticed my mistake after a very short distance, I released the handbrake and the car ran like nothing wrong had happened.
