So I ran into a problem with my tach installation. So i hooked up my orange wire(tach) to the green/blue wire on the far left. But I dont get any reading.

here is a pic of what wire I hooked it up to.

Also I hooked up the rest of the wires to my deck, but seems like the backlight stays on all the time. I hooked up the red(tach) to red(deck), white(tach) to yellow (deck), and well the black went to the ground. Did I mix up the wires?

I believe the tach signal wire is only green/blue on 07/08.

the circled wire is where mine is, and I believe it would be the same on yours (just a different color), since that connector is industry standard.

I hooked it up to that wire and same thing. no reading. I wonder if I am tapping from the right place?

You are in the right place.

On the tach the red is 12v power, the white is for the dimmer switch (illumination) wire. that wire on the OBDII port is the correct one to the best of my knowledge.

where did you ground to? If you can post a pic of the electrical connections as well

I connected it to the deck ground, I thought it was fine since the back light and everything else works, just no reading. Should I ground it to the car?

You may have fried it by hooking the tach sensor to the wrong wire.

I thought 07 was green, 08 was pink, and don't know 09

yah supposely 09 is the light brown wire that is all the way to the left separated from the rest. But when i hooked it up still didnt get any reading.

I had a problem like this with my Celica, and I pulled the wire threw the firewall and put the wire near where the tach fuse was. I want to give it a try. I looked in the manual but cant find where the tach fuse is. can some one point it out for me?

well my tach was straight from Japan, so i guess normally the white wire that would go to the consistant was for the tach wire and yeah. I would never have known that if battleversiontc didnt help me.

on 09 its the lt brown wire closet to the hood latch on the obd2 diagostic port post #3 second picture is the tach wire for 09, but for all the years the tach wire for wiring a aftermarket tach on the wire should be in the same location just different color and if toyota ever changed it they need a new adapter in order to run diagnostics

tach connection on obd2 plug
07/08 lt greenish blue wire
09 lt brown wire

Hi has anyone installed an aftermarket tach on a toyota belta japan import please? I would like to know where to fit the tach wire to the obd port if possible. cheers Mark.

^ Read the post before yours. It's most likely that the position stays the same even if the wire color changes.

On the belta, the tach wire on the DLC3 connector (OBD) is the same as on the US cars. The wire color may vary, but pin 9 (same position as shown above) is the tach signal.
