Has anyone installed one? If so, what kind and did it improve any performance, like mpg :D ?
I want to install the set-up like Marcus with his magnaflow... they sound nice and its not too loud... I like to have a nice smooth exhuast... :D

i have one. it's a magnaflow 2.25" hi flow cat. 12" long. used it to quiet down my header back exhaust, and it did. however, i only have the hiflow cat and a 18" resonator. can't help ya with any info for the mpg department.

you should look into random tech cat's. it's a pipe...that catalyzes the exhaust. its just like a straight pipe, only emissions legal.
I thought changing the cat converter was illegal. Is there any way to do it legally or does it even matter?

each state varies.
it's illegal to remove a cat from your vehicle, but if you replace it with another cat you may be in the clear. if your state does not do emissions testing then you're definitely in the clear. i'm running a magnaflow spun cat as well.

In Hawaii, Not having a cat is Illegal. Replacing it is not. WE don't have Emission testing though...
What are the benefits of changing the cats - more horsepower?

High flow Cat > OEM Cat
main thing is being able to be legal when it comes to state testing...and doing your part in being more green.
If you want more horses, go straight pipe to muffler. BUT you will no longer pass any state inspections or testing, and you can get popped my local law enforcement if they check to see if you have done a cat delete.

High flow cat isnt really even a cat its just a strait pipe that has catalist around the inside it maybe has 5-10 percent of catalist that a normal cat would have. Also is not smog legal anywhere.

No one said if they had or even noticed any power increase. Or even if it maybe just helped the engine rev up a little quicker.

Well, Maine has no smog testing or emissions test at all, so that would be sweet for custom

I dont have any dyno numbers but when I installed my nitto mid-pipe with "cat delete" I could feel a slight differnce , mabey good for 1-3 real hp's .

you guys are also installing 2.25" pipes on these cars? But isn't 2.25" a little too big? Whats the stock diameter of the exhaust pipes?

Sorry but putting something in that has lower catalist efficiency and less catalist will not magically make the emissions out of the tail pipe cleaner.
Its called the law of common sense. Now if its on a car that has already extremely clean emsisions and you delete the cat you may not see much change in emissions but definately wont see a improvement.

i had a 383 stroker with stock manifolds, stock y pipe dual cats and aftermarket exhaust...ran almost failing for PA emissions. i put on long tubes and a SINGLE CAT from random tech and i got waaay better emissions. HC and NOX went way down, not so much on CO2 tho, and co wasnt much lower but they werent bad to begin with.
i understand what you're saying about 'physics' and i only bought the cat because it was 'emissions legal' and i didnt believe it. but the numbers proved it, and the sound did too.
now i dont know how they did it and i also dont know if it was much power added vs the LT header install, but i passed emissions with a stroker motor, and a cam motor with no problems with this cat. so i'm game if i can afford another
the bad side to this cat is simple...it's extremely expensive vs the magnaflow high-flow cat. it's like 400 bux vs 30

you could always try the magnaflow 54305. I have it installed and I love it, they are cheaper on ebay but I wanted a warranty (the salt on the roads here in winter kills an exhaust) so I got it here magnaflow 54305 ( http://www.allexhaust.com/magnaflow/7481.html), or you can try one of the vendors http://www.allexhaust.com/magnaflow/, they are always running sales/specials. either way its a great system and very easy to install. good luck :headbang::headbang:

carsound on ebay sells them for like 35 bux and shipping...anywhere from 1.5" diameter to 4" diameter
all stainless construction, ceramic honeycomb with catalyst coated. you can also order any type of direct fit through them but you'll pay the price. universals are much cheaper and you could always cut off the factory ends and have them welded onto the magnaflow cat.

Did the high flow cat cause any check engine lights to come on. To pass emission testing where i am there cant be any check engine lights.

4-2-1 as header then OBX 2.25" as exhaust with muffler from OBX. I cut and installed a Magnaflow free flow 12" cat, 6" diameter Mag. free-flowing muffler cut shorter to fit and as a resonator. Got no cel popping up and second season.

Has anyone here ever actually flow tested the stock cat or does everyone assume an aftermarket one flows better?
