Someone posted something about the center vents recently. What I did was buy a cheap mesh trash basket and replace the slats. I never pointed the vents at anything anyways...total cost about $10

thanks for the close up shot of the vents. I have some stuff made from that I will use but mine will be white I think since I will be finishing the paint on the dash to go blue and white

^^ your talkin to the king of CF. He sells sheets out of his shop.

And that looks really good garm! I use the directional vents all the time and it is still tempting to do... lol

still have the corner ones I can point at myself.

The carbon fiber overlays on the center console pieces were sent out, they aren't the sheets I sell.

So you had someone custom lay carbon fiber over your existing trim pieces? Looks great.

cali yaris
05-10-2009, 07:26 PM
^ yes, exactly. They fit a little more snugly with the extra layer, but not bad at all.

So, has anyone laid claim to your old vents? If so, consider me first in line, as I use them but would like to get a second pair so I can try painting them...

Cheers! M2

Would the CF sheet you sell look anything like yours? Could I get a close up pic of the sheets?

Looks awesome. If you don't mind me asking who did it for you and how much did it cost?

Thanks, when you do let me know, and I will order the DF210s I have been wanting so you can just throw them in the same box if you don't mind...

Garm, thanks for posting this! If I ever get tired of the painted center vents, I might just go ahead and cannibalize my mesh paper trays and do this.

Did you have to drill or staple to attach the mesh at all? I ask because I'd like to know if I wanted to swap the vents back in if it would be possible. :)

Brad,

I cut the mesh so it was snug anyway, but a bit of Gorilla Glue in the corners made it totally permanent.

Somewhat off topic, but what bracket did you use for mounting your cell phone?

Ahhhh. I thought perhaps you had found a mounting bracket that attached behind the vertical trim and kept the phone tight to the dash, instead of sticking out like most of the ones I've run into.

The velcro works great for me. I just throw the phone on there when I get in the car. And the phone has a nice soft backing now, LOL

Hey Max if you want to head up to the DFW area I will help you put your springs on. I put the DF210's on my hatch as well.

I do appreciate the offer, but Dallas is a 300 mile/4.5 hr drive one way from San Antonio and that would make for a very long day!

I've done suspension work on my Jeep so I don't think Sprocket will be much of a problem. I just hate taking off all the stuff around the wipers, especially that huge metal shield that I am scared I will drop and scratch the hell out of something. Otherwise, it probably isn't any harder than install my fogs!

Still, I am grateful for the kind gesture, and hopefully one of these days soon we can have a meet-'n-greet somewhere central so most of us can attend!

Cheers! M2

It's not necessary to remove all of that to do the springs, if you use an offset box-end wrench to get onto the top strut nut.

Are there any instructions on this approach, or is it intuitive? I am intrigued...

Now I know what I'm doing with my vents. One of them broke a few months ago, and I was getting tired of the color anyway.

i looked at the vents in my car and was trying to figure out a way to attach it. did you attach it to the CF face? or did you attach it behind it?

cali yaris
05-16-2009, 10:48 PM
I attached from behind. I used a saber saw with a fine blade (for cutting metal). What you have there will be great, and probably easier to cut than the mesh I used.

I'm working on the round holes on the sides now - you guys got me all inspired again.

hopefully using my dremel with a cutting wheel will be sufficient

Great idea Garm. I did the center vents on my 09 today. The 09 vent has a different setup though. I got rid of the up/down flaps and covered with the mesh. The left/right though has a wheel below the vents, so I had to keep left/right control or it would leave empty slots.

Mine had those too but when it was covered with carbon fiber I had him cover those holes.

Cool, nice work guys, love it!! Anyone else?
