View Full Version : Retrofit Question

OK, so I have the headlights installed and working. Brilliant!

Not so brilliant: kills the high beams, which I knew. However the retrofit is so damn bright I don't care. Question is can I wire the stalk to a set of fog lights in a way so that turning my high beams on in the cabin actually turns on the fogs?

most likely all you gotta do is find the high beam wires and run them to the power side of the fogs and disconnect them from the headligh bulb harness so they dont turn those on

Problem is, doing it this way, it would be like the regular lights, once you turn on the high beams?fogs, the low beams will be disabled, and it's not such a good idea for HIDs to be turned on and off quickly like that...

I do think there was a similar discussion in the past though, about the ability to have both high and low beams on at once. Might have been lost in the hack but I'll dig around...

that's just a matter of diodes and relays. Assuming you have the proper relay harnesses already, you just need diodes. When the low-beam ground shuts off, you want to have the relay signal wires to still use the high-beam ground, and that will keep both on.

if he bought the ones from violin, he made those in the begining of 07. Unless he had violin whip him up some new ones?

Nope, they're the originals.

I ended up buying a harness. I didn't have the cajones to build one myself. I got it from theretrofitsource.com.

By the way, they sat in my closet for over a year. Hopefully that explains everything lol.

Looks decent, makes me think more seriously about doing the front-end overhaul on mine. Though I'll admit it's a bit of a pipedream, still want to just yank the whole front clip including the fenders, get a single-piece front shell made and replace the headlight modules with headlights more in the style of a TVR Chimera or the like.

I forget what I paid for these. I think $600 lightly used. They're a jubgundous PITA to make. It was well worth it. They're from a BMW E46 if I'm not mistaken.

$600!? and you make fun of people buying blitz kits!?

garm is bringing in the projector HID bi-xenon kits (not installed in the housing) to be able to do retrofits like camells. going to cost $200. i'll let you know how it goes.

IIRC the E46 and S2000 projectors do both Hi and Low beam.

the Yaris would be sweet with some big effing driving lights + these.

maybe retro fit some crazy pencil lights into the turn signal area.

that'd be sweet.
