A/C is cooler when car is moving?

i noticed that when my ac is running while the car is moving the air i get seems to be cooler. but when i stop for a short while i dont feel that cool air like when the car is moving.. it is set to recirculation.

I have not really used the AC much in my Yaris yet, but I've seen similar things in other cars. I think it has more to do with the extra juice the car puts out while it's actually moving and generating more electrical power (therefore making the AC blow harder). Idling, our Ford van's AC would be ever so slightly warmer than it was when actually moving down the road.

It has to do with extra airflow across the condenser when car is moving, and increased circulation within the system because of higher rpms.

You should take your car to the dealer. A 2009 should run cool while stopped.

I feel that the air conditioner in the Yaris is adequate at best.

Like was already posted. The a/c compressor puts a heavy load on our small engines. It is working 100 percent efficient at a non idle state at above 1k rpms and will driving. At idle the car trys to bump up the idle to compensate but may not be enough.

physics.... the AC unit moves heat from one spot to another spot... the cooler the initial spot... the cooler the final spot. Think of it as the AC make a specific change in temp like 30F. if the air under the hood is 50F it'll be really cold... if the air is 120.... it'll still be very hot.

When you stop your car... the ac unit heats up quicker... thus it doesn't feel as cool.
