Transmission noise

I'm not sure if it's always been there or not, but noticed a noise when I'm in park and then shift to reverse. I hear a light "clunk". My car's an Automatic.
The last time I heard it was in my garage, and with my foot on the brake as I moved the shifter from Park to Reverse it makes that noise as it's shifting the gear. Otherwise, the transmission works flawlessly.
So, I don't know if it's normal operating noise or if there's an issue. Thanks.:iono:

Is it normal or something I will need to take it in for? It only has like 350 miles! lol.

Do you put the parking brake on or put the car in park first? If I let the car roll back before I pull the e-brake, there will be a large thud the next time I take it out of park. The thud is the parking pin forcing its way out, instead of sliding freely.

No. I didn't use the parking brake since I was parked in my garage. I tried it again to hear the noise and I would hear a "click" when shifting from reverse into park. So basically, I started the car, shifted from Park to reverse which was ok, then from reverse back into Park and I would hear a "click". I don't know if it's just normal operating sounds like the "transmission shifting" or something I should have checked out.

I don't think you have a problem. My '09 auto (also with about 350 miles!) makes the same noise.

How new is your Yaris? Both of my Yarii made that noise for about a month. It will go away soon.

I always use the parking brake even when using "PARK" on the automatic transmission. I haven't confirmed it for the Yaris by searching a service manual, but many cars adjust the rear drum brakes when the parking brake is applied.

Some cars actually adjust ok.

Most cars, including ours do not adjust on their own much at all. I know this first hand as I just adjusted them syself.

As for a noise from the transmission, the car should only do that if you are not applying the brakes enough, or the car is on a hill of any kind. It thuds its way harshly out of park and into gear.

My dads car did that RWD, and it was bad. Then we noticed that with the brakes applied, the rear drums would not apply brake pressure at all. So when it changed into gear, it allowed the car to bounce fowards/upwards a bit harshly.

I cant believe my dad drove like this for over a year, just to see that the drums became unadjusted and never ever applied rear brakes. Now thats fixed, and it the car finally feels like it has a brake system, and no longer needing to apply all your body weight to stop the car..(exaggeration, but Im not lying).

Well, I decided to take the car to the dealership just to make sure it was normal. They tested it, and said it was just normal operating noise of the car being put in different gears.
They proceeded to ask if I would like to have my blinker fluid checked too. I said "NO" and walked out with my dignity intact.

No, there was no charge. I just bought it last month so everything's under warranty. They even did a full car inspection.
