I'm excited. Now I just have to get some mounts for my antenna's. I completely removed the old AM/FM antenna from the roof, mount and all. I have a Wilson FGT 3' antenna, and a firestik AM/FM 3' antenna. They're going to be mounted in front of the side view mirrors.

CD Player: Pioneer DEH-P3100UB
CB Radio: Cobra 18WXSTII

Getting the stock radio bracket to work with the CB was a pain. I had to grind off three of the locating bump things, then pound a raised section flat with a hammer, and then grind out a ton of metal so my huge mounting screws would fit flush. THEN it still didn't fit!

The Cobra is just barely wide enough that when I used my trim fill pieces, it was too wide by about .25". So I had to sand them down.

Now it's done. Other mods are that I painted my center console flat black, and installed black 2009 climate control knobs then put the green lights in them from my other ones. Nice and clean looking. Everything is green now.

Sorry my phone takes such horrible pictures. I'll post some better ones later.

Looks great! Why am I surprised people still use CB radios?

Wait... pound a section flat? I only had to grind off the three bumps on mine. Or did you try to use the stock mounting knobs to screw the CB in?

I just took one of those knobs down to Home Depot, picked up two bolts of the same thread pitch for $0.30 each, made life MUCH easier. No pounding then. =^.^=

Though I'm also amazed you mounted the CB that far forward... but I tend to prefer the 'tucked in the dash' look, keeps the cables out of the way of the AC controls since they want to hug the lower curve around the outside of things then.

I needed to blow off some testosterone in the garage... But yea, I used the stock screws with the huge heads. Oh, and I also put some black foam between them to keep it from shifting up and down since the screws are in the middle, ya know?

I wanted the CB to be flush with the radio. The pics don't show it well, but they both stick out the same amount.

Both can be shifted back the same amount. Well, they'll be flat in the 'stripped' state of no faceplate versus no CB mic screwed in. :-)

But yeah, I didn't want to mangle the stock mounting bracket any more than I needed to, so I only ground off the CB-level bumps, bought better fitting bolts and four washers (two between the CB and bracket, two between the bracket at the bolts) to solve the swivel up/down non-issue. Same thing with my head unit. And found I could very neatly tuck the splitter up under the instrument cluster. (Small 1" square of velcro holding it in place on the underside.)

The narrow bezel looks nice. I want it so bad, but I don't feel like painting again, grrr.

I plan on dropping in a VHF headunit to work with some of the other stuff I have laying around. Should be a fun little mod.

Looks like a great setup, really like the CB,i used to equip my cars with CB's but for the last several years there arent enough people using them to make installation worth the effort,You might hear a trucker use it out on the interstate once in a blue moon and thats about it..

I was going to do a VHF/UHF radio in there, but I want my first radio to be a handheld unit. I just got my HAM a couple months ago. Post pics when you get it in there!

Nice to see another Yaris ham here. I've been a ham since 1988 and hold an Extra class license. I haven't done any mobile hamming in quite some time and when I did, it was usually 2 meter.

Not sure I'd want to try HF ham in a Yaris though. If I tried to put a Texas Bugcatcher antenna on my Yaris, it would probably tip over<grin>

Post some pictures of your setup once it's done, I look forward to seeing it.

Hahaha, that antenna isn't that big...

I got some of the holes drilled for my antenna mounts, just have to get my tee nuts welded in. Soon I will be CBing up 91 north and south.

As far as my HAM stuff is going -- I am going to talk to a HAM at my job. We have a room in the basement with some radio equipment there and I'd like to get us up and running in an emergency preparedness groups like ARES or RACES. Hopefully he can mentor me some.
