View Full Version : Would you guys buy a Chrysler product at below dealer cost (as 789 dealers close)?

There are essentially 44,000 cars and trucks that "must go" within the next few weeks.

Would you guys take advantage and get a killer deal on a Chrysler product?

Even if it means potential problems in the future if Chrysler doesn't make it?

And very bad resale value?

If I didn't love my Yaris so much, I'd consider it if I the deal was right on the right car. Dodge Caliber maybe. But I know that it would have to be a keeper to get my money's worth.

Vote!

(please excuse the poll typo)

I'd go for a Crossfire if they still have one of those around. My favourite Chrysler by far.

You're not going to get deals on Challengers.

Other than that and Viper, you will on pretty much all other models though.

Of course, all the good stuff will be gone quick.

My last vehicle was a 1999 Dodge Stratus that had lots of specific issues and even more general issues. I kept it alive until 138,000 miles but after 115k or so employees from all over the dealership would come to look at it when it was getting worked on as it was so odd to see a Stratus on the road with that kind of mileage.

While not my first problematic American car it was the one that pushed me over the edge into never buying American again. So, no, I don't care what specials they offer. You'd have to pay me to take one of their vehicles now.

would buy one without a doubt if I had any need at all for another vehicle but the family vehicles are all fairly new. I'd consider trading the Yaris in for one too but since the dealerships are closing I doubt they need any extra used vehicles... so looks like I'm staying right where I'm at.

As nice as the Charger looks still I'd never get a Chrysler. If the one I buy breaks down (and you know it will), who's gonna fix it? One of the tumbleweeds at the place I got it from? Also towing it way out of my way to another dealership sounds totally pointless. IMHO It's not worth it, for any price

That's the other thing. They won't be giving much on trades. The cars they take in will immediately be sold to wholesalers. And wholesalers don't give top dollar either. Although it may not be any different than normal since dealers always low ball trades anyway to allow a profit.

I've had three, and managed to thankfully sell the first one before it got to bad. First was a '87 Dodge Omni, 2.2L carbed, auto. No reverse @ 90k miles, power steering ate itself and I had to install manual steering system, no power (but great MPG), sold it to my dumb Ex for a grand with the only upgrades being stereo and nice 16's.

Second was a '92 Dodge Caravan fully loaded, 3.3L V6, auto. At 135k miles it dropped a valve, ruining the engine. Turns out the 3.3L is next to impossible to find, and a 3.0L won't bolt to the 3.3L auto tranny.

3rd was my '89 Chrysler LeBaron GTC conv. 2.5L turbo, modded to 350hp. Caught fire twice, the 2nd time it totalled the car.

No chrsylers for me thanks.

Only owned one Chysler, a 79 LeBaron. Never again.

I've heard that Chryslers from the 1990s have a neat habit - when they get into their fifties they take up smoking.

They'd have to be giving them away... and the waiting line would have to be very short, and the weather pleasant, and I'd have to have absolutely nothing else to do...

One of the guys at work said to me a few months ago, "I'm getting a Chrysler Pickup. It has a lifetime warranty!"

I looked at him and asked, "Whose lifetime? Yours or Chryslers?"

I had a 2008 Sebring convertable for a rental on one business trip. The only good thing about it was putting the top down, and you really had to if you wanted to see out of the car. The windshield tilted back so steeply that you could hardly see and the rear window was tiny. The ride was just OK, not great. No Chrysler for me, unless it's something like a '68 Roadrunner.

Please buy a Dodge Ram with a Cummins :). Currently on layoff from my CMEP plant due to the restructuring of Chrysler. Wait for the new engine coming out...it will knock your socks off.

They said the three things that would never go away is the Jeep brand, Dodge Trucks, and their minivans. They gave us a website to follow all their stuff on. Its scoop.chrysler.com

Only dodge I had ever liked was the Crossfire.
It was different, elegant, and basically the cheapest Mercedes SL320 you would ever buy!
The SRT6 model got good reviews from the ones I have read.

There is currently no Chrysler product (sans a Jeep) that I'd spend my money on at this point.

Thank god, I don't have my 2004 chrysler sebring convertable, it was a nightmare of a car. Got rid of it cause the engine had sludge build up problem, I'm sticking to yarii no matter what.

my last car was a '96 chrysler concorde. i got it with 78,000 miles on it and traded it in for my yaris with just under 272,000 miles on it and have only had minor things go wrong.. things that i fully expected. similarly, my dad's jeep just bit the dust a little while ago with 374k miles on it... we've had pretty good luck with them, so i voted (what should have been), "maybe/maybe not" =P

If they paid my insurance for life, paid for new tires, oil changes, maintenance for life, gave me a set of 20"s, tinted the windows, bought me a system, completely chromed out the engine bay, and installed a traveling kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and guest sleeping suite you still couldn't convince me to spend $5 on anything they make.

:)

(PS - I really like the look of domestic cars with 20"s and chromed out show ready engine bays ... it's just my minitruckin' side coming out lol)

Two Chrysler products, NEVER, EVER again, even for free. My stepson is working on his 3rd Dodge pigup, somehow he thinks they're great. Local guy has his 3rd Dog Pigup, can't hardly wait to get rid of it, 'cuz it is a hard-working truck, and the two are mutually exclusive.

It will be interesting to see how Chryco does if they get tied to FIAT, should be fun to watch!

I was planning to buy a 2010 Ram 3500 in the fall to replace my 2003. Looks like I'll be waiting........

Any inside news on the new engine? I didn't think the 2010 diesels were going to be any different.

Well, aside from the Crossfire being based off of the old MB SLK, I was actually just pointing out that it was badged a CHRYSLER, not Dodge.

But yeah, it was a Daimler-Chrysler concoction.

And yes, Mercedes destroyed Chrysler and bleed them dry. What a shame.

If it was all MB the retractable spoiler would actually work, instead of getting stuck open like half the crossfires I've ever seen.

Well with the amount of those SLK's that had their retractable roof fail and cost $thousands to fix I'd say that being all MB doesn't mean being all reliable.

The 2010 is a little beefier and I work in the test department where we run every engine that comes off the line and it looks totally different. The ECM is lighter and all the internals crank, pistons, rods are lighter. I am not for sure on the final horsepower or the torque but I know its up there. You have no idea how hardcore we are on the engines and making sure they are right before we ship them to Saltillo.

Every 15th engine is ran in a 25 minute audit test at full and i mean full 3500 rpm throttle to test it out. We now cold test and run them in what we call our attribute cell. The cold test cell is a new technology for diesels and Cummins was the first to have them for diesels and we have 4 cells. We test for gear noise in the front of the engine and it also checks the turbo, sensors, injectors, cylinder balance, and everything else you can thank of.

The 2010 engine is in the works and being finalized and the 2012 Dodge truck is suppose to be redone visually and everything else, and with the new engine in 2011 we are supose to blow Ford and Chevy out of the water.

Just between us we have had Ford reps at out Tech Center with 3 or 4 Ford truck which was rumored to have Cummins diesels in them, which we are starting to build a V8 and V6 diesel to go into lighter cars. Heck we even had to apply for a new EPA certification because the air leaving all the plants is so much cleaner and we have already met the emissions standars up till 2012.

I was planning to buy a 2010 Ram 3500 in the fall to replace my 2003. Looks like I'll be waiting........
