I've found Raytheon or Furuno to make good marine ones - no idea who makes a radar for cars....

My friend had a cobra one. Around 50 bucks I think. He never had an issue with it not working. I have a passport but it never really helped me cause they would use lines on the road or other ways to catch me and then I'd get more citations when they see it.
^ Ha. Actually the new Dodge Caravan has radar. :p

Skip the radar detector, and buy a dictionary instead!

There's no such thing as 'good' and 'cheap' when it comes to detecting radar and/or defeating ladar (laser based) speed guns law enforcement uses. Flat-out.
Good kit that'll detect accurately, not be a glowing neon "I'M DODGING THE LAW, OFFICER!" indicator on your dash/windshield, and in the case of laser will actually prevent a reading? It'll be a grand for the whole kit, installed properly.
Don't drive like you're in a Corvette, and try not to get stuck with the S-model with all extra trim, you'll be fine. :D

took the words out of my mouth. "Good" and "Cheap" are two words that can't be used in the same sentence when talking about a radar detector.
