AC to Wrightwood Open!

Today was a great day in the Yaris :thumbup:

The section of Angeles Crest Highway (2) from Newcombs Ranch to Wrightwood (33 mile stretch) has been closed for over 5 years. Today around noon it was re-opened to the public and I was lucky enough to be one of the first out on the newly paved twisties :burnrubber:

Including my morning excursions to Azusa/SGV (39), East Fork, GMR and loops on Big Tujunga off AC I logged over 200 miles of canyons today (over 300 miles total including the hwy commutes to/from the mountain).

We'll meet up at the Shell station around 10:30 AM and leave when everyone gets there, no later than 11:00 AM.
If Anyone want's to meet up in Wrightwood for lunch, we should arrive between 12:00PM - 12:30PM, just look for the cars to meet us for lunch.

I absolutely hate living in an area without real hills, let alone mountains, and every damn road is snapped to a grid. :cry::cry::cry:

Why was it closed???

Parts of the road were damaged by a storm, there's a new bridge that I didn't get a good pic of. It was closed back in 2004. I heard Caltrans guys have been driving up & down the road honking their horns and making noise to try and get all the bears and big horn sheep that have "moved in" away from the area in preparation for the re-opening. I didn't see any today but there were lots of squirrels.

Best time to drive up here is late morning to mid-day, midweek, non-holiday. That's when there's the least traffic and police presence. I'm planning to go up again Friday morning on my motorcycle.

Someone set it up if you want to go for a cruise up here, I'm down to go whenever.

You ever run Hwy 138 east of the 15? Not so many cops but locals are mad men on the road, in a good way. It starts out with a few miles of straights but once the road turns red the fun starts. Try it out when you get the time.

lol yeah. It was pretty nuts. Super long though. Dude definitely had some crazy 'bambi' moments haha. Animals were trying to race me, but I kept my cool yo. Like seriously though bambi was running along side me, it was a trip! Beautiful scenery, should be really nice during our morning run. :thumbsup:

You shouldn't have to leave that early... it's only ~30 miles from your shop and traffic shouldn't add 1hr to the trip. If 101 -> 134 -> 2 is backed up, you can take 118 -> 210 -> 2 which is pretty much the same distance but less traffic.
