Everyone should be aware, if they aren't, that there will be three competitive models including the Yaris. There will be the Honda Fit and the Nissan Versa (which I consider highly unattractive). Lets get a conversation going on this filled with tons of input...

I hate it!!!

In Australia, the Yaris' closest competitors are,
Honda Jazz (Fit)
Suzuki Swift
Nissan Tiida
Holden Barina
Hyundai Accent

The Nissan Versa doesn't even come close to the Yaris; appearance wise. In my opinion it is the worse looking new Nissan vehicle. For me I think the only Yaris competitor worth mentioning in North America is the Honda Fit. All the other ones like the Hyundai, Chevy, and Suzuki don't even come close in appearance to the Yaris. I'am not too sure about engines because for me I'am an appearance guy first, then the engine after.

Is that a Suzuki? It looks pretty good, but a little bit boxy, kinda like the mini cooper.

Yeah I like the swift too. Good looking car. The new accent hatchback looks really good too. Just seems like the toyota will have the best engine of all of it's competition. Best tunability too I would think. Atleast should be on par with the fits and those two will probably be leaders of the pack. Looks like we might start getting some good small hatches after all. WOO HOO! Finally *napoleon voice* GOSH. But if the swift were to be offered with say, the 150 hp engine that's in the awd aerio sx awd I might be tempted to look. Just don't like the way those aerio's corner, looks like they're going to tip over or something.

Yer.. Suzuki Swift, its been out around 9 months in Australia. the 1.8L GTi Model should arive mid-late this year :) They are really nice cars with superb fun handling .... but fro a bit more money, i reckon the Yaris is the way to go. I can see teh swift's shape growing outdated. It may look a bit like a mini side on, but it definitely isnt a mini!

Suzuki Swift isn't worth a shit! Believe me, it is also produced here, in Hungary, so I heard of it quite much. It is too small, its technic is out of date, and it is even not the cheapest car in its category.
Yeah, saw the
Swift + here in Canada, don't worth talk about. (try hear one of them on the road)
Fits -- Might be the biggest competitor of them all.
Versa -- Ugggggggggggly. Even worst then a Quest.
Caliber -- Not bad at all. But then......... American car....
Focus -- Another American.... but they try to make it look cool and kit and stuff is cheap.
Wave -- Price is attractive, but not fuel economy (espeically city.Up to 9l/km)
Aveo5 -- uh........... No. (have you seen the interior?)
Rios -- Korean, need to say more?
Accent 5 -- Read Rios
At least price wise, they are all competitors.
Needless to say, I love my YARIS.

why are you people so strangely addicted to the car you bough and absolutely refuse to accept that something out there may be, well not better, but at least equal to what you have:bow: ...all of you without exceptions mentioned the looks of Nissan Versa knowing that Versa surpasses the beloved Yaris on the others sides like interior, comfort, HPs, sound isolation etc...Personally she looks great buy it s just IMHO probably VW guys out there will agree...

just wait til the new sentra comes out. its fuuugly.
anyways, those pics of the versa look not bad. from the rear, it bears resemblance to the yaris. maybe its the blazing blue-esque paint job. however, the front is what really does me in for the versa. no thanks
does it really qualify to be in the same category as the yaris though? i heard in japan it is in a more upscale classification... above the subcompact class, and its 1.8L motor certainly puts it in the corolla/civic class.
Man that car is ugly.
I agree it almost seems to fit better in the Corolla class.
But that car is just way too ugly to even think about getting in.
It does look a little better than the fit though.

I'll have to agree — the new Versa is ugly. Then agin, so is the new Sentra.

Sorry guys, no insult or anything but not too much credit to your opinions as you are all proud owners of Yaris which is one of the cars Versa will be pushing out in few months...so you are all biased.
As to its looks, i honestly think it looks more natural than Honda Fit but for me interiour comfort is more important and i am not the only one...

good for you ilusha55, buy whatever car you want for whatever reason,
but i can vouch for myself that the reason i bought the yaris is because i thought it was an attractive little car,
and regardless of owning a yaris, it is my belief that the versa is ugly, but then again, i don't like the styling of many nissan cars, personal preference.

It is! Actually it was my first choice, with the the interior size as the only drawback - the main reason i seek for a roomy sub compact now.

sorry to hear that, i like to think of vesta as murano little brother with its rear oval ending and classic nissan front.

32 mpg? although it is 120 hp, 39 on the highway sounds alittle bit better to me
the versa sedan would probably end up selling more anyway. if someone was going for a sport hatch, they would most likely swing towards toyota or honda because of the wide aftermarket variety
oh yeah, the versa is made in mexico, so shipping would end up being quicker, but IMHO id rather have something that takes longer to get here but i can be sure of the quality

sentra is being made in mexico since at least 10 years - it is one of the most reliable ones...

the yaris is very roomy for a small car, my family of 3 fits in it with plenty of room to spare, but it does appear that the versa is a bigger vehicle, as some have stated, is probably in a bigger class of cars than the yaris (suzuki aerio)
the versa won't have the same fuel economy as the yaris, but will still be good.

Don't get me wrong dude I fly the Nissan flag every freakin day. What Ghosn (Nissan Int. President) shoulda done was released the Sport Concept instead of the Versa I think it was equipped with a 1.8 turbo engine. Also the Versa is WAYYYY too Opel (read: euro) looking for me. They should release the micra (sp?) and the cube. Plus the way Toyota released it has a big to do with the way people are liking the car. Not everyone likes the hatchback style so they are gonna opt for the sedan.

Well I sat in a yaris LB and there was plenty of space for me (6'1" @ 300 lbs). I have yet to sit in a Versa but I plan on doing so in a couple of months. The absolute best interior/seat that i have sat in though is the Mitsu Evo VIII that seat alone is worth buying that car.

Uh oh. I think my Vibe got kinky with someone's Yaris. Then Nissan stole it away to raise it as their very own! Those b@stards!
( )

I usually like Nissan's. The Murano is a really nice vehicle, even with the CVT. The New altima is going to look great. The Z is on my list of sports cars to own, and the sentra looks decent too.
The new maxima is seriously ugly, and so is the versa.
