Wow. That guy really posed a threat to those officers after he was laying motionless in the grass after being thrown out of a minivan

Those cops sure showed that guy ...

You can be as mad as you like, but hitting an unconscious guy on the ground after he's been thrown out of the window of his crashing car is just a bit over the top. That first cop (the baton attack) should be thrown in jail.
This is the sort of thing that police training should prepare you for - the end of the chase, that is.

They were all fired... wasn't like they got a promotion, a medal and a transfer.

We had a similar incident a few years back. Some guy in a neighboring boro was suffering from diabetic ketoacidosis. He started weaving his car. The police tried to get him to pull over. First one behind him, then two. Young kids, part timers.

Finally he complied. He was a bit "looped" and smelled "drunk". They pulled him from the car and started smacking him with their batons. My local Chief, an "old school" cop, pulls up to help.

He recognizes the guy and knew his medical history. He asked the officers to stop beating on the guy. They quickly discovered at the ER he was suffering from ketoacidosis and fixed him up, plus fixed up his head and face.

I think they're still chasing this case through the local Courts. One time I don't mind a lawyer getting into the play.

Another thing to be grateful for.... they didn't have a K9 with them, and let him "chew" on the suspect.

I don't agree that they should have been fired....but they did over-react just a bit. At least wait till he wakes up. LOL

5 cops beating up an unconscious man,not only should they be fired i hope the victim takes legal action and gets big bucks.Yes the victim was totally in the wrong and should also be prosecuted for his actions but cops are supposed to be trained to deal with these situations and are expected to uphold a higher standard than the one these savage thugs demonstrated.

Anyone else notice that it seems to be 5 white males beating a black male?

Not trying to call a racism card, but it wouldnt be the first time this has happened...
This world sometimes baffles me...

Oh and as for Birmingham doing the right thing...The city govt is just as corrupt as those cops that beat the guy, they have wasted taxpayers money like crazy over stupid ventures and projects that only further placed the city into debt.

Racism had no play in this, he ran over a cop and they were out for blood no matter what color he was.

Still, the officers that can be clearly identified as beating the man need to have criminal charges brought against them. I can understand their reaction but not their actions. If they can't control themselves even in a situation like this, then they have no right to be police officers.

Had they simply "dogpiled" on him it would have been understandable; but to beat him like this is unforgivable.
