Did you see any difference in your Scion, in its performance?

you dont get much performance gains unless you have header and exhaust
on stock your looking at about 2-3 hp at the crank
but the car breaths better, so better mpg on the gas
its worth the install plus gets rid of a lot of crap under the hood

riceboy

I've found that CAI's produce more useable gains on a day to day basis over an exhaust or header... If you're only looking at one of the above I would go CAI!

Yeah it goes in very deep.
Sorry I haven't had time to take pics of mine, it's polished if anyone cares. The cone filter sits directly above the fog light and under the main headlight housing. It's protected by the rear splash guard so it won't receive too much moisture.

The bypass valve is purchased separately from AEM, but I am guessing you can possibly buy a generic or custom made one.

I don't understand how a bypass works :x... I always thought the intake needs to be a 2 piece to put on a bypass?

Wayside
10-03-2006, 08:05 AM
To install a bypass you must cut the intake.

A bypass will also impede the air flow which will reduce noticeable gains.

wlfpck
10-03-2006, 10:34 AM
that looks nice. Are they gonna release a short ram anytime soon?

bigsky2
10-03-2006, 03:48 PM
To install a bypass you must cut the intake.

A bypass will also impede the air flow which will reduce noticeable gains.

Agreed.

And the bypass is not really necessary since the location of the filter/cone is well protected from any contact with water.

I really can't see how the valve would effect performance.

Nevermind...

I just got off the phone with AEM. They don't have a bypass available for the Yaris yet. There may be no space for one but they haven't completed their testing.

I was looking at the shielding underneath. You'd have to drive through one hell of a puddle to submerge the intake anywho. You'd have more problems than engine damage with that amount of water.

It doesn't directly get fresh air blown onto it. It's more of to keep it away from the engine heat.

nice gains up top indead, but what's really nice is the fact that it seems gains are similar throughout the entire rpm range. Nice improvement in the powerband overall.

AEM has a very comprehensive section on this here:
http://www.aempower.com/Faqs.aspx?FaqCategoryID=22

How often to clean:http://www.aempower.com/Faqs.aspx?FaqCategoryID=22#80

They suggest purchasing the AEM Filter Cleaning Solution to clean it every 10,000 miles.

I just installed a CAI from TRD with the water valve. I paid $ 318.00 from Frasier Toyota in Grand Forks. I live in Canada it took 3 weeks to ship and was installed in half n hour. Looks great, sounds awesome. Notice alot quicker response in 2nd / 3rd gear. 1st gear not that much difference just the groaning noise. Togather with the Borla Exhaust I have makes a nice combo. Gaind 9 - 11 HP hopefully. Here is the final look, Cheers !

Your basically paying over $200 bux for the pipe, the filter you can buy anywhere... there has to be some company willing to bend a piece of pipe for cheaper

How do you screw up MAF sensor placement?

by putting it in the wrong place.

if you put it right after a bend it will meter the air differently then before, aka. incorrectly causing the ECU to run either lean or rich.
