Is there anything out there that I could use as a strip across the top of my windshield? Something like the dots that are on it in front of the rear view mirror? Etc? PA law says no tint on the front window but I'm sure there's alternatives..?

The only way that I can think of is if you have a medical condition that requires you to have limited exposure to sun light. If you are on certain antihypertensives, you might be able to get a doctors approval for tint.

I'm mostly just focused on the top part of the windshield. Like 2-3 inches down from the top. I would like to put those dots all the way across, but no clue how that'd be possible or what to use. I don't wanna tint the entire windshield, but everytime I see a yaris the windshield just looks so large/tall and I'd like to do something where it fades the top of the windshield down some and makes it look "smaller".

hehe, hmmm, you can create an image with black dots of the correct size and have a decal shop make you a 4 inch banner of them. Might be expensive to cut out tho.

Hmmm. I'm guessing I'm the only one that's annoyed by this. It's just everytime I drive past a yaris I want to add a strip across the top of the windshield to give the appearance of a smaller/shorter windshield. I guess it's my yaris pet peeve.

There is static cling vinyl for the top six inches of the windshield. I've seen it in the auto parts store.

I did my tinting and tinted the top nine inches. It's 30% and not that noticeable. I've seen police look, but none have stopped me. The windshield is so large that nine inches doesn't look like much. If you do six inches it will be less noticeable. The tinting really helps.

Llumar recently released a product called AirBlue. It's a full tint that can go on all windows. It supposedly give you the 99% UV protection without losing visibility. It's a faint blue tint. Any authorized Llumar tinter should have them in stock I don't have a link but look it up. :)

Good suggestions. I'll be googling later to try to find something.

will they enforce that law often?
i'm in south florida, they hardly enforce that law. I have 15% all around except for the front, no tint there. no problems yet, including getting a speeding ticket and a 'warning' about the tint. many people down here have the top 3-4"s tinted, most cars even come with mild tint there, so how could illegal could it be?

u can do anything u want above the as-5 line...or anywhere it's tinted from the factory...black it out, put stickers whatever.

if you look really close, about 5 inches down on the driver's and passenger;s side, there's a black mark with 3 dashes and a carrot arrow. that's where you legally have to stop...no further.

just get perforated vinyl, its used as a see through wrap for ads like on public transit here is a sample:
http://www.clearfocus.com/products/perforated_vinyl_uncoated/classic_vue.php

do a search on google for either perf vinyl or see through decals/vinyl

I'm having a hard time finding someone who would sell me a roll of plain black perforated vinyl. Does anyone know a place that sells it? I want to test it out as tint for my liftback. My friend is an officer as well and said I could use his tint tester to see if it's legal. In theory, 50% of light passes through. Don't know what the machine will say though.

are you sure you can't just tint the top of the window? I think the law means you cannot tint the whole window. I could be wrong.

I had 5% tint on my MX-5 all the way around including a bar on the upper part of the windshield.

I am a state inspector in Texas. Here you cannot have tint on the front 2 side windows darker than 20% unless you are law enforcement, medical, or something else can't remember now. the back windows don't matter as long as you can see out of the back window. As far as the windsheild you cannot have tint any lower than the as-1 line (5" down from the top) you also cannot have anything colored red, blue, or amber those are reserved for emergancy vehicals only.

I looked on my windshield but so no line 5 inches down. Despite that, I still plan on putting some type of tint/sun block strip across the top of my windshield. Probably 4-5" down from the top.

Yea I noticed that I don't have the as-1 line on my windsheild when I went to go get my tint done but the place that you go will know all the local laws and will abide by them

That's true. I read something that we are allowed 70% all the way around, even the windshield. I'm not sure how true that windshield part is though.

Wow that would be cool to get the whole windsheild done!!!

I'm probably gonna get 50% on the rear window and front and back sides, then get 50% strip along the top 3-5 inches of the windshield.
